FROM THE
HAPTER DIRECTOR
RIDER EDUCATION by Jack Limp

Our 2 years of being Chapter Directors will come to an end January 1, 2004. Jerry and Sandy will take over and we wish them well.
We could not have done our job without the help of our staff. Thank you all!
We will be faced with some interesting  fund raising issues, but nothing we can't handle. There will not be a bike raffle any more. I will explain at the next meeting.
I want to ride and not worry about money anyway.
Winter Rendezvous is coming in Feburary and this will be fun. It will be in South Bend again.
Gail was supposed to write this months letter but told me that if I wanted pie and date nut bread, I had to learn to bake or start typing. Guess which one I did.
I rode my bike on November 23 what a crazy year!
Well this is a short newsletter, have a great Holiday Season and be as good as you want to be.

CHECK YOUR OIL FILTER FOR LEAKS AROUND THE SEAL.
Most of us change our oil and oil filter on our bike. This is a simple job to do and is done without much thought of having any problems!

I changed oil on my bike about 6 weeks ago and have put  several hundred miles on since, as always after I change oil and hand tighten the filter I started the engine to check for any oil leaks. No leaks everything was good to go.

6 weeks later I started my bike in the garage to let it run for a while and noted oil on the garage floor, my first thought was what's going on here this is not an HD its a Gold Wing! I checked the oil filter and found it was leaking around the seal. After tightening it up it stopped leaking, this is the first time I have had an oil filter loosen up after it was installed. Some times you can get a rough cut tread or burr and the filter is not as tight as you think it is. So when you  pre-flight the Wing check for any oil leaks around the front of the engine. Once the filter loosens you can loose all your oil while riding and not realize it until engine damage or failure occurs.
