Hope Heritage Days in Hope, Indiana

What a great time! The living history weekend at Hope was a great success. A big thank you to Steve Coffman for finding us such a great spot to camp and to Bret Caldwell for purchasing the straw. We set up camp Saturday morning and the crowds came in surges. The culmination of the weekend was the parade. We thrilled the people of Hope young and old. It gave us a really good feeling to have kids and adults stand up and salute the flag when we all marched by. Although next year we will join the parade in town, and shorten the route by 2 miles. The period log cabin we camped around (Headquarters of General Lew (Lee) Wallace) has been designated the new home of the 11th Indiana.

140th Franklin

A superb event all around. Mike Beck, Steve Coffman, Bret Caldwell, and Bruce Kolb attended the 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. It was four great days of marching and fighting.

Hartford City

A great event as usual. Friday’s education day was a success with close to 3,500 students in attendance. The rest of the weekend was grand. Mike Beck’s cooking was the best yet. Thanks to Bruce Kolb for saving the apple crisp.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

The 11th Indiana is to participate in the SUVCW parade on Saturday, November 20, 2004 in downtown Gettysburg. The parade is in commemoration of Lincoln’s
Gettysburg Address. The will also be a ceremony at the Albert Woolson monument, and at the High Water Mark. There should be plenty of time to tour the battlefields and shops during the weekend.

 

11th Indiana Featured in America’s Civil War magazine

A painting by Keith Rocco of the XIX corps featured on the cover of the November 2004 issue of America’s Civil War magazine shows the men of the 11th Indiana working on the trenches and earth works during the battle of Cedar Creek. It is a fascinating article and good publicity for the unit. Bruce Kolb has a few extra copies if you missed this issue.

End of the Year Event

Plans need to be made for the 11th to meet in Hope, Indiana at the end of this year to discuss the 2005 schedule of events. Anyone interested in coordinating this event should contact Mike Beck for everyone’s email address.
