The memorial service held on April 15, 2003 at Lincoln's Tomb in Springfield, Illinois was attended by Bret "metermaid" Caldwell, Phil McClure, Russell McClure, Mike Beck, and Bruce Kolb. Mike Beck wore his new 11th Jacket and was the envy of all those in attendance. Three cheers and a tiger for Judy McClure for her fabulous work sewing the new jackets. After the ceremony we headed into Springfield for lunch at Café Brio. Bret Caldwell who rented a van for the trip to Springfield had a run in with the local constable but it only cost him $5. After lunch we proceeded to Lincoln's home (2 hour wait for the tour) so we just took pictures of the house and then walked to the GAR/WRC museum and spent roughly an hour drooling over all the civil war relics and GAR memorabilia. We then parted ways and headed for home.

The recognition ceremony held at Vernon for Major General Robert Sanford Foster was a great success and the Jennings County Historical Society was very pleased. Phil McClure did a wonderful job as Lew Wallace and did our unit proud. Sergeant Major Bret Caldwell made sure the whole event went smoothly. Thanks also to Russell McClure for his maps and for making the event. It was a good time, and I think everyone was thoroughly pleased with our performance.

All members of the 11th are cordially invited to attend the SUVCW Ben Harrison Camp #356 Memorial Day observance in honor of former Indiana Department Commander, Colonel Ivan N. Walker. The ceremony is to be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, May 30, 2003 @ 5:00pm. The ceremony will be conducted at Walker's grave, which is located at Crown Hill Cemetery, Section 13, Lot 31. His grave is just forward of Colonel Eli Lilly's monument and just northwest of President Ben Harrison's.

On Saturday, October 25, 2003 @ 8:00am the SUVCW Ben Harrison Camp #356 will hold a formal recognition ceremony for all those who worked so diligently on the Camp Morton Boundary Markers. The ceremony will be held at the Camp Morton Shelter rain or shine. The SVR has been asked to provide a color guard. Parking will be available on the street. Following the ceremony the members will move to the Camp Morton Civil War show to be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds at the corner of 38th and Fall Creek.
