While thinking about a topic to blog on, I remembered a recent conversation with my editor about what's hot these days.  BDSM, M/M, and Inter-racial seem to be the current biggies.

My first book was a paranormal called The Soul Collector and it came out to pretty good reviews but sales slumped rather quickly, as I'm told is normal with a first book.

My second book is Across The Stars, a kinky sci-fi with mild BDSM elements, that has gotten some really fabulous reviews. Question is: Why?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you, I love getting great reviews and ATS was a blast to write, but I had to wonder...would getting tied up and spanked really turn me on? I mean, my sisters and I got spanked as kids. Every year we got those paddles with the rubberband string and rubber ball at the end and when the damn string broke, my dad would save them and use them to warm our backsides when we were bad. I have vivid recollections of finding his stash in the garage and throwing them all in the trash.

So, what is it about BDSM that gets women so hot? Is it the control thing? Do we, as women, essentially want to give up control - at least sexually? What is it about being at the mercy of a big, strapping man that turns us on?
