Pushkar
Pushkar is extremely important to Hindus as a place of worship and is the only place in India with a temple dedicated to Lord Brahma the Creator.  Legend holds that Lord Brahma killed the demon Vajra Nabhu with a lotus flower, whose petals floated down to Earth and landed in three places in and around Pushkar. Lakes sprang up on these sites  and today the town is a centre for religious pilgrimage by sadhus (below right) and believers who come to bath in the holy waters of the lake.
Above - the town is centred around Pushkar Lake, surrounded by hills on three sides and the sand dunes of the Thar Desert on the fourth.
Left - pilgrims performing puja.
Below - a camel handler. Every November Pushkar is host to the annual camel fair, a spectacular burst of colour and vibrant festivity.
Above - the family Singh, whom I first met in 1992: Fatu, his French wife Lola and their children and pet tortoise (below left).

Bottom right - a musical evening with the owners of a local craft shop and gallery.
