Here it is, the painting that's kept me busy for the better part a 3 months. I've seen many crucifixion paintings, and never cared for the clean and pleasant look of most of them. They almost gave me the impression a cherub would fly over and pearch on the top of the cross at any moment. So I created a scene from hell, with the added drama of many old, broken crosses in the background. I want people to personalize this, for in a way all of us crucify ourselves daily. Which cross is yours? Mine is on the bottom right.
"Neco" from what I understand, is Latin for "Put to Death." I wanted to name it "It really isn't very nice to nail people to a tree," but it was a little lengthy. It was donated to Fr. Theodore Ley, and the Schola Cantorum of the Pacific |
