Neco
Acrylic on Canvas
30 x 24
2000
Here it is, the painting that's kept me busy for the better part a 3 months.  I've seen many crucifixion paintings, and never cared for the clean and pleasant look of most of them.  They almost gave me the impression a cherub would fly over and pearch on the top of the cross at any moment.  So I created a scene from hell, with the added drama of many old, broken crosses in the background.  I want people to personalize this, for in a way all of us crucify ourselves daily.  Which cross is yours?  Mine is on the bottom right.

"Neco" from what I understand, is Latin for "Put to Death."  I wanted to name it "It really isn't very nice to nail people to a tree," but it was a little lengthy.  It was donated to Fr. Theodore Ley, and the Schola Cantorum of the Pacific
Fr. Theodore Ley receiving the painting on behalf of the Schola Cantorum of the Pacific.
