This painting is a little sad for me. My grandmother was an artist, and due to her ailing health, gave up painting. She gave me this blank canvas, among other things, to do "what ever" with...
Well, about a month later, she just became too ill for my Grandfather to care for, and it was necessary to place her in a convalecent hospital. It was, as one would expect, a very difficult time for all of us.
Knowing that she would be in a rather drab hospital room, I took that little canvas she gave me, and painted "something" on it with lots of colour that I thought she would like...Just for the shapes and patterns...She had Altzheimer's, and I knew full well she probably wouldn't "understand" any of it....
But, as I saw it, if anyone could make heads or tails of this painting, it would be her.
So, in essence, she gave me the canvas blank, and I gave it back to her "coloured with the patterns of dreams".
Not sure if she liked it, or even knew it was there, but I feel better for having done it. |
