After a relatively brief period in the pastorate, I have spent most of my adult life in Christian higher education. First on the faculty and in administration at Gordon College, and then for twenty-four years on the faculty of Wheaton College--seventeen of these as chair of the department of biblical studies. After that, I served as president of the Institute of Holy Land Studies (subsequently renamed Jerualem University College), Jerusalem, Israel.  Following an extended leave, as visiting professor at Emanuel Bible College, Oradea, Romania, before retiring for the third time. Presently, increasingly writing for publication.
For convenience, the authored books are listed in two categories: those written before taking the overseas assignment with the Institute of Holy Land Studies, and those written thereafter. The former are: Psychology in the Psalms (1969), Christianity Without Walls (1972), Paced By God (1973), Celebrating Jesus as Lord (1974), Understanding Bible Prophecy (1977), The Evangelical Challenge (1978), My Servant Job (1979), Doing Theology Across Cultures (1982), Saga of the Spirit (1985), and Making the Gospel Relevant (1986).

And the latter: Revelation Across Cultures (1995), Charting a Good Church Trip (1995), Exhortaions of Jesus According to Matthew and Up From the Depths (1997), A Case For Christianity (1997), Sage Sayings (1997), Chaos Paradigm: A Theological Exploration (1998), In Tune With God (1998), Man: The Perennial Question (1999), Devotions With David: A Christian Legacy (2000), Demetrius the Disciple (2000), Casey and Tonka (2000), Scripture As Story (2000), Two Gospel Motifs: The Original Quest & The Messianic Theophany (2001), The High God (2001), Why Take the Bible Seriously?      Several overseas ministries have welcomed the donation of books, primarily for college, seminary, and university libraries. While no appeal has been made for funds to support this ministry, some may feel led to contribute.
