Omoshiroyama in Autumn
Last autumn, Josh and I ventured over to Yamagata Prefecture to a place called Omoshiroyama. A direct translation of this from Japanese into English renders it into "Interesting Mountain". We didn't really go bushwalking there, but rather took a long pleasant stroll. The place can easily be reached from Sendai Station by train. Actually, upon alighting from the train after about an hour train ride, one is practically at the trailhead for the long pleasant stroll. We went in autumn to view the spectacular explosion of red, yellow and orange leaves of the deciduous trees amidst the more stolidly green conifers. I hope the pictures below will do justice to what we were able to appreciate during our day there.

This is the train that one can catch to Omoshiroyama. The picture was taken on our way back to the train station.

Mt Omoshiroyama is in the background. In winter, the gaps between the conifers is one of the runs of the local ski resort.

This area has some very colourful displays of the autumn leaves regularly intersected by sparkling waterfalls.. The picture above was taken from a ramen (Japanese noodles) shop's window. Unfortunately, there was nothing that I could do about the powerlines when I was taking the photo.
