ARCHANGEL OF DEATH
Even angels come to me eventually.
Jarmuth is a very mysterious and unknowable creature, as suits his work. He came into existence, fully-formed and aware, when Michael and Lucifer were created side by side, and has remained ever since.
He has the thankless task of easing the pain of those who are near death, but are just about hanging on. This abates their distress and that of their loved ones. He is also the Divine instrument of punishment, seeking the guilty and destroying them utterly. He also sorts out the souls of the dead according to God's Will and the Word that they served in life.
As far as it goes, Jarmuth is not a happy person, but neither is he a well of sadness and despair. He is balanced, as befits his Elohite nature. The only thing in creation that he actively despises is Saminga, because he deals death indiscriminately. He does not play politics like the other Archangels do, preferring to just get on with his work. He gets on fairly well with most of them; the militant Archangels put a lot of work his way, and the non-militants recognise that death is a part of life. Yves is his greatest friend, but he remains resolutely uninvolved.
DISSONANCE
It is dissonant for an Angel of Death to kill a human before his time, or not strive to stop a death before the correct time if they can. For the purposes of this condition, human refers to mundanes who do not know about the War. Similarly, if they deliberately allow a human to live on after his rightful time, they will gain dissonance, if they do not 'correct the problem.' It is also dissonant to allow a mundane human to know the time or manner of his own demise.
CHOIR ATTUNEMENTS
Seraphim
Seraphim of Death can see how a person will die if using the Rightful Time Attunement.
Cherubim
These Guardian Angels do not gain dissonance if they allow the object of their attunement to die at their rightful time.
Ofanim Wheels who serve Death can neutralise a human's wounds if the target is not at his appointed time of death. They may counteract a number of wounds equal to their total Forces. This power cannot bring someone back to life. This costs Essence equal to the target's total Forces.
Elohim
Those Powers in the service of Death are able to determine which way of dying the target fears the most, and why. If he can get them to stop being afraid, he regains three Essence.
Malakim
The Virtues of Death are Jarmuth's instruments of punishment, bringing death to those who inflicted it on others before their times. They can sense others who have done so, and are empowered to end their lives as soon as possible, regardless of their times. They are not subject to the normal dissonance conditions if those above apply.
Kyriotates
If a Kyriotate of Death's host dies at the natural time, the Kyriotate does not gain dissonance. This only applies if the death occurs when the host was destined to die. If at any other time, he gains dissonance normally.
Mercurians
Mercurians of Death are sad-eyed, healing angels who take away pain and suffering. They do not gain dissonance if they kill a human at his natural time, or if it is as an act of mercy. If this is so, they do not gain dissonance for their Choir or Superior dissonance rules. Jarmuth may require discipline, but he values mercy above all.
SERVITOR ATTUNEMENTS
Rightful Time
This allows the Angel to know, by concentrating for a round, the exact time of a human's physical death. This does not tell him what they will die of, or how, but when.
All Angels of Death must buy this Attunement at character creation.
Post-Mortem
This Attunements lets the Angel know, with a Perception roll at a penalty equal to the number of days the body has been dead, whether a dead human died before his time, what of, and who did it (if someone did kill them). It is up to the angel himself as to whether he shares this information. (GMs note: if this would disrupt your campaigns, just say that the Angel doesn't detect anything).
DISTINCTIONS
Vassal of Extinctive Knowledge
With a Perception roll, the Vassal can tell if someone has ever killed another human.
Friend of The Dead
A Friend is able to determine whether a person is ever likely to commit murder, and if so, what would push them over the edge into killing. This requires a Perception roll, which can be resisted with a Will roll.
Master of The End
Jarmuth's Masters can bring death with a touch. By spending Essence equal to the target's total Forces and rolling Will, they can cause a human or celestial vessel to die. The target can resist with a Will roll. However, if the human is not at his appointed time, the power causes a double disturbance, and the user gains as many points of dissonance as half the human's Forces, rounded down. Jarmuth often recalls those who overuse this power, or who consign too many humans to death before their time.
RELATIONS
Jarmuth does not play politics in the same way as the other Archangels. The only others who he listens to are Yves, because they share an area of their work, and Gabriel, because they both punish the cruel. There are stories about them, and even now they sometimes walk hand in hand. Novalis is somewhat neutral towards him; she recognises the necessity of his work, but that doesn't mean she likes it. Eli is not opposed to him, more sorrowfully resigned. They used to talk sometimes, before Eli left Heaven.
Allied: Gabriel, Yves.
Associated: Everyone else.
Hostile: None.
