I S A A C
ARCHANGEL OF LAUGHTER

So there was this man, right, and he...

In the days before the Fall, Kobal was the Angel of Laughter, lightening the lives and spirits of humans with laughter and joy. He was said to walk with God in this time, even though he was no Archangel. And then the Fall came, and Kobal was made the Demon Prince of Dark Humor, and the world mourned the loss.

The Word of Laughter stood vacant for centuries, untaken by anyone, fearful of the consequences. This all changed in the 10th Century, when a minor Mercurian Servitor of Eli discovered that Laughter was a good way to brighten the lives of humans through the dark times of the Middle Ages, and was granted the Word. His influence and power grew, as Jesters became the most important members of any court, always having the king's ear. Their powers of laughter quietened the more savage policies of the rulers, and benefited the local people. He made tremendous headway in the Elizabethan period, when Shakespeare wrote the best comedies in the world, and in the Restoration period as fun and laughter reigned supreme, and he was made an Archangel.

His Word has suffered occasionally, in times of great darkness and evil, but someone, somewhere, is always laughing. In recent times, when more and more influence has been paid to comedy, his Word has enjoyed resurgence, and seems to be back on the way up. Whether he will be able to sustain this growth yet remains to be seen. One thing, which will always be certain, is that Kobal will always hate and despise him for his joyful joking, and for taking over his old Word.

DISSONANCE
It is dissonant for and Angel of Laughter to go more days than his Celestial Forces without making someone laugh. The laughter should not be hurtful (although this does not create dissonance; more disapproval). It is also dissonant for an Angel of Laughter to actively seek to make people unhappy, unless they are demons.

CHOIR ATTUNEMENTS
Seraphim
The Most Holy who serve Laughter seem to be the most relaxed and human of all Seraphim, having less of a black and white viewpoint on everything. Seraphim of Laughter do not create dissonance if 'lying' is a joke or part of one. Otherwise, the normal dissonance rules apply.

Cherubim
The Guardians of Laughter can attune themselves to a joke, funny phrase or something, which has been recorded as an item of entertainment (such as a video comedy). If that particular joke, phrase, or copy of the program is seen or heard by a number of people equal to or greater than the Cherub's Celestial Forces in a day, he regains three Essence, and the attunement is dissolved. Otherwise, the Attunement stays on, although the Cherub does not gain dissonance if the joke, phrase or comedic article is not told or seen, although he cannot ever again use the same power on the same material to try and gain Essence. If successful, he may re-use the joke a number of times equal to his Celestial Forces (although few of them do).

Ofanim
Ofanim of Laughter are the masters of slapstick. As long as any given act is part of a comedic skit, or supports that skit (such as using a Song), it does not disturb the Symphony. Oh, and mimes do count, unfortunately. Some people laugh at them...

Elohim
Powers of Laughter can tell, as an aspect of their resonance, what would make someone laugh. The higher the check digit, the harder the laughter. Whimsical acts do not cause dissonance if in the service of a joke. They tend to be serious and unbending most of the time, until they make a particularly wry verbal joke, when a tiny smile may grace their features.

Malakim
Isaac's Malakim are the only members of their choir who actually have a real sense of humour. They are seen as quirky, dangerously undisciplined, and flighty by the other members of their Choir. Malakim of Laughter can stop demons in their tracks with a joke or witty taunt. Both sides roll Will, the demon having a penalty equal to the Angel's Celestial Forces. The demon will immediately forget what he was about to do and stand there laughing his head off.

Kyriotates
Dominations of Laughter regain one Essence every time they make a Host seem witty and funny in front of others, or if they increase other peoples' estimation of the Host through the power of Laughter.

Mercurians
Those Servitors of Laughter who share their Superior's Choir are gifted with advantages relating to their close relationship to humanity and its enthrallingly laughter-obsessed society. They are able, on entering a situation or group of people, to intuit what they find the funniest, and the best way to make them laugh because of it. This requires a Perception roll to find out what they find funny, and a Will roll to implement it. The Will roll is augmented for the target number and check digit by the check of the Perception roll. If the modified check of the Will roll is higher than 6, or on a Divine Intervention, the audience cannot talk for laughter, and are literally rolling in the aisles. The angel may affect a number of people equal to his total Forces.

SERVITOR ATTUNEMENTS
The Power of Laughter
The use of this power will find the funniest thing the target has seen or heard in the last week, and allows the angel to create a mnemonic stimulation in the target's mind, making him remember the joke. And hopefully start laughing at it again. Another use for the power transmits the joke into the angel's memory. He then has the choice of whether to tell it or not. Maybe you just had to be there... To use this power, the angel must roll Perception and spend one Essence for the first use, and two for the second.

Toon World!
Angels with this Attunement almost always wear trench coats and a sly grin. The basic power is to allow the angel to pull anything out from under his coat (or out of his pocket, etc) as long as to do so would be funny, or would further a joke. Each use costs one Essence, and lasts for an hour. At the end of this time, anything created by the Attunement disappears. The objects can be anything from a rubber chicken to a bazooka - which only fires custard pies...

DISTINCTIONS
Vassal of Humor
All Vassals have a bonus of +2 to the check digit of all rolls relating to performance. If the act is a stand-up routine, they gain +3.

Friend of Raillery
If the Friend of Raillery makes someone laugh out loud at jokes he tells for around five minutes, he regains Essence equal to the check digit of a successful Will roll. This Essence comes from the human, as a payment for the jokes.

Master of Merriment
Masters of Merriment are able to heal someone through Laughter. If someone has sustained Ethereal or Celestial wounds, the Angel of Laughter may heal levels of wounding equal to the check digit, if he says or does something that would normally make the target laugh. If the Angel rolls a Divine Intervention, a point of Ethereal or Celestial Discord will be lost! (If the target has them or the equivalent Disadvantage). This will not reduce the level of a Geas.

RELATIONS
Obviously, Isaac doesn't get on with the more serious and militant Archangels. He feels that they reduce the amount of laughter in the world, and make his job all the harder. Still, he grins and bears it, stretching his collar before stepping on stage... Three Superiors are listed as neutral, because Isaac doesn't hate anyone. He is just somewhat detached towards them.

Allied: Eli, Novalis, Yves.
Associated: Blandine
Neutral: David, Dominic, Laurence (Michael sometimes gets the jokes)
