The 2002 Female Lifeguard of the Year

The preaseason favorite to win was Tina and the early line favorite was Ashley. Both can run a slide really well. They certainly know what they are doing. Of course one can not discount Kate who returns for one final year to defend after being named the 2001 Female Lifeguard of the year. Then there is Allison one of the top rookies from Last year might she sway Mark T we will have to wait and see. We are now down to three and my decision coming up very shortly. Who will it not be someone that gets an award so rare there has only been one in the past 7 seasons. This someone we say goodbye to after half a decade of service

The Lifetime Achievment Award given to KATE come and take a walk down memory lane with Mark T as we say good bye to only the second receipent ever of a lifetime achievement award

_____ALLISON_______________ _____TINA____________________ASHLEY(on your right)

In the 2002 Female lifeguard of the year competition it is the toughest ever and one of these 3 ladies will win the title. Yes just one there will be no tie. Do you know who I do and that information is below To take a look at the 2002 Female Lifeguard of the Year Contenders

#3 Allison: her I never again expected to see. She is so friendly and works well with children she will make sure you ride the slide correctly and she often smiles. She got a little confused when they put up those signs at the cage but she quickly figured it out. If every guard could be like Allison it would put the friendly into lifeguarding

#2 Ashley: It was a tough decision for me as the competition was extremely heated this year. I was extremely close to declaring a tie but thought that someone must win. Therefore I went with Ashley can run a slide with the best of them. Even on the cooler days she would push you down and I like when she would have a towel wrapped around. She is probably the guard that I have seen jump in the water the most because she does not hesitate and that is great. You can feel very safe when Ashley is around and she comes in second by just a bit.

#1 Congratulations to Tina !!! She is totally terrific and since these are the opinions of Mark T I don't have to be impartial and most people might know by now that I like Tina but for this competetion we look at the fact that whenever she runs whatever slide it becomes the express line never got to see a slide down between her and Ashley that would have been something. Then of all the guards in the sand she is probably alwasy the most happy. Plus I like to splash her and other guards like to tell people to splash her and she takes it and has fun doing so. Then of course who could forget that blue bandana with the sparkles. I am just sad that I will not have a picture of that. Will this year's winner let me by her dinner? There is my open invitation. From the Preseason Favorite to the very end the winner is Tina and here's hoping she comes back in 2003 to Defend the title

On August 16, 2002 Mark T purchased stock in Thornburg Mortgage Inc. with symbol TMA because I like Tina and TMA gives you TINA and MARK and you go with the common letter in our name A and you get TMA. If you can find a stock in these days that has earnings and is paying more than a 11.5% dividend annualy on its current price I suggest you buy it. Its a giveaway that I like you when I buy a stock based on your name.

In 2001 I had to declare for the first time in history a tie between Justin and Mike now Justin has gone away and Mike is left to defend the title. Do you think that he will win? Others I am considering are Jason and Jeff

This is a picture from 2001 there are Justin, Jason, and Mike

Are you ready for the male lifeguard of the year here you go then:

#3 He has been around awhile but it is tough to win when you are at the wave pool most of the time since I never ever go in there not that you can't but coming in at #3 is Jeffrey

#2 He to me is a friendly guy but my sister would tell you no he is not. I see him alot and you might to featured in the picture up above he is Jason

#1 After tying last year he shined this year. He can run whitewater run and it is great to have him on the storm. Sometimes I see him run two slides haven't seen the 3 but I know he could which is quite a show so the sole winner of the Mark T's 2002 Male Lifeguard of the year is Mike and we may have some more pictures of him coming soon

In the 2002 Female rookie lifeguard of the year competition I had narrowed it down to 3. However one of them I don't know there name perhaps if I find it up she will go up on the list for now we go with:

#2 Kristen. The early line favorite to win and what away to begin. She always says good morning has a pierced belly button and seems to be happy. As the history says it is tough to hang on until the award comes out. However it was a very close race.

#1 The 2002 Female rookie Lifeguard of the year award goes to drum roll please. Did any of you see this coming. Every time I have seen her she is always as happy as can be. She nevers falls for me being frighten of the slide but I love to see what she has to say. She can run a slide and what tipped the scales was that I saw her get hit in the head by a double tube and she continued to smile. So congratulations go out to Amber

In the 2002 Male rookie lifeguard of the year competition I had 2 candidates and one I don't know his name but he knows mine. :

#2 Hopefully I will get his name but for now I have been referring to him as Tommy as he is outfitted by Tommy Hilfinger. He has blonde hair and watches the water well and seems to be having a good time plus he can run a slide. I like when he is at whitewater run.

#1 The 2002 Male rookie lifeguard of the year award goes to a guy that seems to work every single day. I probably will be at the park 70% of the time this year and I have seen him like every single day. He just keeps going and going and he stays positive. He can run them all and I have heard from the gals that he is simply smashing. Congratulations to Charles who wins Mark T's 2002 rookie lifeguard of the year award.

This is perhaps my favorite award to give because of the longevity involved back in 1995 when Deep River Watepark had a lazy river, pipeline express, whitewater run and the wave pool which your host was in then there were many lifeguards such as the twins Kelly and Kristen who walked the park. Then there were two lifeguards I had crushes on known as "Double Trouble" Then in 1996 it got out of control with "The Sensational Six" and those were the days. In 1997 there was the "Triple Threat" From 1998-Y2k it was the perfect girl to me but hey no ones perfect now are they. All those lifeguards they have gone away from Deep River Waterpark and looking back to 1995 fondly we remember park director Jim Basala and of course Rebecca who should just sign up for at least two more years now and Heidi and other than that who has been at Deep River Waterpark the past 8 seasons? Well yes me but I don't work there. He has seen all those lifeguards come and go and I wish I knew how many he saw come and go but at least he is still standing and for that the award for the Best 8th Season Lifeguard goes to can you guess?

He always follows all the rules and keeps things moving in the right direction. Congratulations to Dustin

More to come as the season continues including the 2cnd year guard awards will Jamie, Katie, Corey, Lauren or Nicole win?

Here is a picture of 2cnd year Guard Katie.

You know last year there was the Dandy Dozen because there were a lot of good new guards. This year some of them have returned and here we go:

#5 Jamie she will forever be known as "Our Pal in the Park" she is back again lifeguarding but usually she is at the wave pool and she has tried to convince me to come to the pool but the only pool I'll be going too is the brand new one in Munster Indiana and not the wave pool. She is very friendly when ever I see her and probably would see her more if I she wasn't always at the wavepool.

#4 Nicole she is back and even better than before a smile and happiness you can see when you see her she seems to actually like her job and that is a good thing so there we go Nicole

#3 Corey well you know it came close to a sweep with Corey getting the coveted best hair award, defending her best bag title and now she even takes center stage because don't you just love that picture of her at 2002 Deep River Waterpark Daily If you didn't like that one how about the one below. Sure she has a bad heart but she is all heart when it comes to lifeguarding and boy do I love those orange lifeguard shorts of hers.

#2 Katie Host of the Anti-Mark T website because you have got to love to hate me. If she ever finished it I'd link right up to it. She doesn't like Tubin Tuesdays but she will work most of them anyway. She seemed to be tired alot but not to tired to watch her water and good for Katie.

#1 The winner of the best 2cnd year lifeguard award goes to Lauren and if all went according to plan her picture would be right up here this year maybe it will still be she said that I could take it. I alwasy seem to hear an excitement in her voice and I like that so congratulations Lauren.

In the most beautiful hair competition without Heather to defend from 2001 will it be? I love my hair it is about all I got going for me my oh so beautiful hair so this is a very important category so here we go:

#4 Doesn't everyone know I like ponytails a lot but my very favorite hairstyle is braided pig tails and do you think that will give Ashley the edge to win the 2002 Female lifeguard of the year award. I don't know but one lifeguard every day I have seen her she has had her hair just like that and my sources say her name is the same as my sister's name so hopefully they are right. She is new this year and has such great hair and it she definately knows how to wear: Her name so I am told is Kim

#3 You know even though my hair is extremely beautiful I have considered using some hair product like that Maxim from Just for Men because maybe I could look even better. You know who put some nice highlight in her hair to give it a golden look is Ashley the lead Guard.

#2 People might know I like her but that I would never say because she is just to pretty. Her hair is so thick you could probably put a beach umbrella in it and then everywhere you went with her you could have shade. She is up to be the 2002 Female Lifeguard of the year but will she win or be the runner up. She is known as the Oh So Beautiful Allison.

#1 And the winner is: Let's see who could it be. Some may say it's because the story attached and for that story some of her hair is no longer attached. Sometimes her hair she will wear in this very nice ponytail which has a curve in it. I like that a lot. She tells me that she had several inches cut off and then donated it to one of those places that make wigs for children with cancer and if I had hair to spare I'd do that to and I hope you would too. My hair does not grow long though. So the winner of Mark T's 2002 best hair at Deep River Waterpark goes to oh I bet you all knew it was going to be a blonde didn't you. It goes to Corey

In the food and beverage category first lets go with the gals

Could you believe a taco stand would run out of cheese? That's ok because these gals aim to please and Emily and Rebecca were willing to say cheese. I don't know about those shirts though

#5 She is found in Hot Dog or Taco. I like her voice. She seems to be happy quite alot she is Rebecca

#4 They have this place in front of the park and it is known as Captain Fun's Pizza and I have been lured in there and always wonder if they ever sell anything. I am assured they do and that someone can pour the pop and the girl I normally see pour the pop is rather tall and most people know tall people scare me especially females but she does not so that is good thing so you can find Anne at Pizza

#3 From Carts to Pizza who could it be? She seems to most often yell out Hi Mark T. Her picture will be up on this page if it comes out well. She works up there in the front and Captain fun's pizza and oh the stories she could tell. She is Kim #1 Let's see who could it be. Everyone is use to seeing her in Taco and when she goes over to Hot dog people get confused. In taco we all know she loves to make those vegetarian tacos or ones with very little meat for lifeguards. If you ever watch you will see that people really like Emily because they go to whicever stand she is at to get their drinks. So congratulations to the 2002 Food and Beverage Girl of the Year according to the one and only Mark T her name would just happen to be Emily

Now lets bring on the guys

#5 Often I see him roaming around the park but it sure has to be hot in that cafe on those ever so hot days but that is ok as you will not fear because Chris is here

#4 If only we knew where he belonged some days he has been at catering, once in hotdog, seen him in taco and even at guest services but he says he is in catering he is Andrew

#3 You know him I did not get to see all that much that year and he seemed to make an early exit. However he moved from runner to cook and for that there will be a place for Chase

#2 I like when he gives out the spoons. Didn't you all miss him in taco when he went over to catering. The informant that told me the yardtree was ready to be purchased and he was actually the first person to buy a yardtree stealing almost all my thunder He is Ryan

#1 The winner for the second year in a row as he was moving on up from cook to lead is that tall guy oh come on you know his name it is James

Best Bag:

#3 Alex she was a lifeguard for awhile and then last summer she was in merchandising now she is back and this bag seems to have some fruit that is appealing to the eye.

#2 Allison: You know I like things simple and nothing could be simpler than a simply clear bag I like it alot.

#1 Corey: Repeating for the 2cnd year in a row. It is an orange back pack and it has some new patches on it. Can't get her to like soccer maybe one day. I guess it is football that she likes and now here is a picture of the winning bag.

Will Tina be named the most fun lifeguard to splash? Hold on I can answer that now and the Answer is a resounding yes

Best Storm Attendant: You know when there is no attendant on duty there is often "Chaos at the Cage" It is usually a relief when an attendant is on duty but not always. The best make sure people are in two lines and they keep the piles right and in 2002 I love watching how she can jump around she just hops right up and retrieves the strays tubes and keeps people in line. If there are any tubes available she will have them stacked in the right place. For her jumping ability in and out of the cage. I hearby award the 2002 Best Storm Attendant award to: Hopkins

Who's pictures will appear on this very page. You'll have to come back and see.

You can form your own opinions by visiting Deep River Waterpark which is located just 4 miles East of I-65 on US 30 in beautiful Lake County Indiana. The park is open from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily. I'll see you there.
