CHAPTER 1
Youd think by walking down the street to the convenience store on the corner about a block away that nothing would happen. And youd be right. On many fine summer mornings thats the way it went. It was a usual thing to walk there for my breakfast. I know, healthy right? I couldnt start my day without a Dr. Pepper and a Snickers bar. Anyway, that morning I could tell something was different when I stepped outside, I just couldnt put my finger on it. I realize now that it was Them working their magic. They who make the world go round. You may call them cupid, but I cant believe there is a baby with wings flying around shooting people with love soaked arrows. Instead I prefer to imagine some magical forces that are around us all the time, floating through the air, and that at that magical moment they made sure she was walking down her street to the convenience store as well. They made sure she woke up two hours early needing caffeine. They made sure she didnt have any in her house. They made sure she was there at the same time I walked in. I can still remember that day clearly. I remember every intricate detail about her and our surroundings. She wore blue jeans and a purple tank top. Black shoes with soles about three inches thick. She couldnt have been more than 55 even with the shoes on. She stood trying to reach the Sunkist on the top shelf when I first noticed her. She couldnt quite reach so I decided to help her out. As I reached up our hands brushed together. Silly I know, but I swear I felt electricity go through both of us. If it did it was probably just static electricity, but it got me wanting to go back for more. I smiled at her and handed it to her while she replied her thanks and walked over to the register. I followed behind having grabbed my usual items. When we reached outside the store I suddenly felt brave. I asked her for her name. She smiled that smile again. Then answered with a simple Nikkolette. It really is a beautiful name. I grinned at her and then in turn, told her my name. She acted like she didnt know me but now as I think back she had to have. But that makes her more perfect. She treated me like a normal guy. No special treatment. She didnt freak out or cry. Not something Im used to. We walked in silence a little while and I found out she lives on the same road I do. Odd how Ive never seen her before. I asked her why not and she said they just moved in that week. Like I said. Fate.
