Mclaren F1

    The Mclaren F1 is the world's fastest production car, with it's 6 litre BMW V12 engine, it produces approximately 627bhp @ 7400rpm (around 467kW and 103bhp/litre!!!) and 479lb ft@5600rpm (approximately 650Nm). The Mclaren F1 was designed by Gordon Murray in a project by Mclaren (yes, the same one as the 1998 F1 championship team) to create the ultimate supercar. There was no expense spared in the design and production of the F1 and for evidence, you can look inside the engine bay and find gold (!!!) which is used to reflect heat!!! In 1995 on it's very first attempt, the Mclaren F1 won the prestigious Le Mans 24hr endurance race! This is quite an achievement as the F1 was only designed primarily to be a road car. The picture above is of an updated version of the GTR Mclaren which is used in GT racing and the famous Le mans 24 hour race. The new models have the extended tail to increase downforce but many have said it spoils the car's great supercar styling. There have also been a limited five car production called the LM (Le Mans) which is a road legal version of the GTR.     Just before the demise of the F1, Mclaren wanted to place their supercar into the record books forever, so they used a stock (normal) F1, removed the rev limiter (to allow max speed), and put it on Volkswagen's speed track to officially smash the speed record for a production car (which was previously held by Martin Brundle in a Jaguar XJ220). The F1 smashed the Jaguar's record by more than 40km/h (!!!) and recorded a top speed of 387km/h!!!
