MAJOR PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY INGON

1998-2001

 

 

 

 

7th November 1998:

Workshop on Child Abuse held at Don Bosco Youth Centre to create awareness and sensitize children about the issue of Child Abuse and their right to protection.

 

1999-2000:

Pulse Polio Immunization at Balat. IMPULSE NGO Network extended its volunteer support towards        WHO and the Directorate of Health Services, Meghalaya to materialize the immunization programme as a part of its commitment towards the health issues.

 

 

Awareness Programmes

 

 

Apart from catering to the direct needs of the children in need of Special Care and Protection, the endeavour on the organization’s part has always been to create awareness regarding various issues. One of the major issues, which has been addressed to, by INGON in this process is DRUG ABUSE among the Child Labourers.

 

28TH AND 29TH APRIL 2000 WORKSHOP INVOLVING CHILD    LABOURER TO    SENSITISE THEM ABOUT THE PERILS OF DRUG ABUSE. ORGANISER: IMPULSE NGO NETWORK SPONSORED BY UNDCP

 

28th – 29th April 2000:

INGON organized a Workshop to sensitize the Child labourers about the perils of drug abuse, which was sponsored by UNDCP. The Workshop entailed participatory mode through workbook method, rather than academic discussion on the subject.

 

April 30, 2000:

INGON organized a rally of the Child Labourers at Shillong to mark the UNITED NATION CHILD LABOUR DAY and to sensitize the communities, Government Departments, Media on Child Rights. This programme was  sponsored by UNDCP.

 

 

 

Sepetember 3rd 2000:

IMPULSE NGO NETWORK organized an Outreach Programme at Juvenile Justice Home Where a drawing competition was organized and also education on CRC was imparted.

SUNSHINE, CARE PROGRAMME FOR CHILD LABOUR

 

 

 

September. 17th 2000:

Clothes Day. The Members/volunteers at Shanti Bhavan presented the Children with new dresses.

September 24th 2000:

A special nutrition programme was organized  for the Children  at Shanti Bhavan, which was complimented  by Recreational programme.

 

 

 

 

CHILDREN IN CONFLICT

TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT OF STREET VIOLENCE ON THE TENDER MINDS OF THE CHILD LABOURERS OF SHILLONG, WHICH HAS BEEN ACCEPTED AS A CONFLICT ZONE, INGON ORGANISED A DRAWING COMPETITION FOR THESE CHILDREN, WHERE THEY WERE ASKED TO DRAW THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF CONFLICT. THE DRAWINGS PRODUCED, GAVE THE INGON TEAM A THOROUGH INSIGHT INTO THE CHILDREN’S MIND, INFLICTED BY CONFLICT

 

October 29th 2000:

Special Nutrition programme was held at Shanti Bhavan.

 

 

November. 5th 2000:

Health & nutrition day. Special Health & Nutrition programme with special thrust on adequate diet & medical attention was organized for the children.

 

 

 

Dec. 22nd 2000:

Pre-Christmas celebration for the inmates of the Juvenile Home, through nutrition programme and other recreational programme like dancing competition was organized.

 

December 31st 2000:

New Year celebration was organized for the children, which was marked by nutritional and recreational programme.

 

 

January 7th 2001:

Being situated in conflict zone, the child labourers of the Shillong City bear the brunt of conflict directly. To understand the impact of street violence, on the child’s mind, INGON organized a drawing competition for the child labourers of the city, where they were asked to draw their understanding of conflict. The drawings, produced by these children, later helped INGON immensely to understand the impact of violence on the young minds of children.

Smt Adarsh Sharma, Additional Director (TC) NIPCCD New Delhi and K W Officer designated for Meghalaya visited Impulse NGO Network and interacted with the Child labourers during one of the weekly Programme

SENSITIZATION AND ADVOCACY:

 

 

3rd March 2001:

Anemia in adolescent girls and pregnant women & high rate of infant mortality has been a sad observation in rural Meghalaya. To address this issue, Impulse NGO Network organized an awareness campaign on Reproductive and Child Health at Kyndon Tuber, Jowai which was largely attended by the rural women.

 

 

 

June 6th 2001:

While working on the children’s issues in this area, it was felt that the local administration and the lawyers are not sensitive enough to the rights of the children. INGON organized an open dialogue involving the lawyers and law enforcing authorities where the focus of the discussion was Children’s right as a part of Human Rights. P.D. Mathew from the Supreme Court facilitated the discussion

12th – 13th July 1999:

Awareness generation training course on Reproductive and Child Health Programme (RCH) organized by Addl. District Medical & Health Officer. Member Secretary RCH Training East Khasi Hills at Pasture Institute Conference Hall, Shillong.

 

30th August 1999:

Meeting on Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) organized by World Health Organization at Office Chamber of the Medical Superintendent, Ganesh Das Hospital.

 

8th – 12th November, 1999:

Orientation course on Grant – in – Aid to Voluntary Organization organized by National Institute of Public Co-operation & Child Development, held at New Delhi.

 

4th December, 1999:

Colloquium on “ The Child in the North East “ organized by the North Eastern Council (NEC) & UNICEF at Hotel Pinewood Shillong. Impulse NGO Network represented the State Government of Meghalaya in the colloquium and the President of INGON prepared and presented the statement on behalf of the State.

 

8th – 11th November, 2000:

Regional NGO Consultation and Convention on the Rights of the Child and End decade progress on World Summit for Children organized by National Institute of Public Co-operation and Child Development UNICEF & Save the Children UK was held at Guwahati. Impulse NGO Network participated in Poster Displayed of work done for Children and was adjudged the best innovative intervention Programme.

 

14th – 15th November, 2000:

Workshop on Meghalaya State Plan of Action on Children organized by Social Welfare Department in collaboration with UNICEF held at Hotel Pinewood Shillong. Impulse NGO Network presented data and case studies during the workshop.

 

 

15th – 16th December, 2000:

National Meeting of NGOs working with Children in need of Special Care & Protection organized by National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in collaboration with UNICEF and HIPA held at Haryana Institute of Public Administration. Impulse NGO Network presented a paper on the “Problems of the Child in the North East” in the meeting.

 

 

11th – 12th December 2000:

Two days meeting on Training Issues on Juvenile Justice organized by National Institute of Public co-operation & Child Development, held at North Eastern Regional Center Guwahati.

 

 

Impulse NGO Network was elected as the convenor of Action Against Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC), Meghalaya State Chapter during the National Consultation on Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation of Children held at Kolkata on 28th & 29th July 2001

 

 

9th December 2000:Seminar on works and Disability held at Don Bosco Youth Center Shillong

organized by Directorate of Social Welfare and Bethany Society.

 

28th & 29th July 2001:

National Consultation on Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children held at Kennel Worth Hotel, organized by Action Against Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation of Children  (ATSEC). Impulse NGO Network presented a paper on “Problems of Girl Child Labour in Meghalaya” in the consultation. It was during the same programme, INGON became the convenor of ATSEC, Meghalaya State Chapter.

 

6th October 2001:

Meeting of Social Organizations of North Eastern Region, which was organized by National Institute of Public Cooperation & Child Development held at Guwahati, addressed by Minister of State for Human Resources Development.

 

9th October 2001:

Technical Consultation for National Level Action Research organized by NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION (NHRC), UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR WOMEN (UNIFEM), INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCE (ISS), held at Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi. Impulse NGO Network was the only organization from the North East to attend and present the North East Problems of girl child labour.

 

9th October 2001:

One-day workshop on Nutrition Surveillance through AAA approach organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya held at Raitong, Secretariat Building, Shillong.

 

14th –15th October 2001:

South Asian Conference to Combat Trafficking and Sexual exploitation of children, Review and Planning organized by Save the Children India at Taj Exotica Goa sponsored by UNIFEM.
