Impulse NGO Network (INGON)

PHASE – III

LOOKING BEYOND

To carry out successful intervention programmes it is an essential pre-requisite for any organization to carry out intense research programmes. In this context, during the last decade, Meghalaya has witnessed the upsurge of a crisis, which is very different than that of its earlier experience; the problem of child trafficking. With the Supreme Court imposing ban on timber business, the State in witnessing a huge rural to urban migration of child labour, especially of girl child labour, which essentially facilitates trafficking of children both in terms of zonal, national and inter-national level. To understand the problem properly and develop adequate intervention programmes for the purpose.

INGON is taking up intensive research projects on problems of Girl Child Labour in Shillong with the help of Save the Children India. It has also taken up the issue of Cross Border Child Trafficking in Meghalaya and North East with the help of UNIFEM and has initiated more intervention programmes for the child labour and prevention of cross border trafficking of children in Meghalaya.

INGON has also proposed to the District Social Welfare Officer to assist the Organization to establish an Adoption Home for children (Sishu Greh).

INGON is planning to establish a Drop In Center for children in need of special care and protection in Bara Bazar with the help of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Union Government of India’s Scheme for the welfare of children in needs of Special Care and Protection.

INGON has also proposed to UNIFEM, Save the Children India, and ATSEC National Chapter to assist a workshop on Zonal Consultation on the North East on how to combat trafficking of Children.

To conclude, it would not be improper to say that Child issues are one of the nuclei of INGON’s activities and the Organization looks forward to all the interested Agencies, Institutions, Government, Civil societies and individuals to come forward with helping hands to enable it to render better help for the cause.
