For Roxi and
Benji, this was just another ordinary day at school. It was one week into the
second semester of school. They were sitting in the back of the room, goofing
off as usual.
Mrs. Spencer,
their homeroom teacher was late coming to class today. Usually she was right on
time. This, of course, made the kids even more rowdy, being unsupervised.
“Excuse me
class. I’m sorry I’m late, but we have a new student with us today! Her name is
Emma Thompson. Emma, why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself!” Mrs.
Spencer beamed.
“Yeah, why
don’t you tell us where you got your clothes, so I can be sure not to shop
there ever!” the voice came from the back of the room. She had bleached blonde
hair and green eyes. She was wearing a baby blue Abercrombie & Fitch shirt,
and she had way too much makeup on for her own good.
“Tia, that’s
enough out of you.” Mrs. Spencer snapped as all Tia’s crony’s praised her for
her snotty remark.
Emma stood at
the front of the class and as she stood there she noticed two people in the
back corner. One of them looked very familiar.
“Um, I moved
here from Arizona...” she began.
“Why don’t
you do us all a favor and move back?!” Tia remarked in the same snotty tone.
“Why don’t
YOU do us all a favor and DROP DEAD?” replied the boy who was sitting in the
back corner.
“BENJIMAN!!!
That was not necessary at all!” Mrs. Spencer said horrified.
Benji just
sat there with a grin plastered on his face.
“And I see
you find this very amusing, Mr. Combs. I would like to speak with both you and
Miss Hartley after class.” replied Mrs. Spencer. “Alright Emma, you may
continue.”
As Emma told
a little about herself, Tia and her friends all smirked and tried to muffle
laughs. There was really nothing funny at all about what Emma was saying, but
they seemed to find anything to laugh at. Thankfully, Emma didn’t have to say
much more. After stating her age and where she moved from, again, Mrs. Spencer
led her towards an empty desk that just so happened to be in front of the kid
name Benjamin.
After sitting
down, Emma opened one of her sticker-covered notebooks and began doodling.
Class continued and Emma was barely there. Her mind kept wandering and she kept
thinking about TJ and Sam.
“Was moving a
good idea after all?” she kept thinking. “People here are just like people in
Arizona. Why does there always have to be a stupid blonde?”
“Pst...”
whispered Benji, trying to get Emma’s attention. Emma turned around and looked
at him. “Cool hair.” he said.
“Thanks.” she
said with a smile, and she turned back around.
“Hey, Emma.”
Roxi whispered.
Emma turned
back around and looked at Roxi. “Yeah?”
“Hi, I’m
Roxanne. People call me Roxi though. So, you like Social Distortion?”
“Heck ya! Do
you?” Emma questioned, wondering if they were just fooling around with her mind
like Tia had done.
“Yeah, I like
um, but I’m not a huge fan. Benji here though, he is.” Roxi said nudging Benji.
“That’s
cool.” Emma said before she was cut off my Mrs. Spencer.
“Excuse me,
is there something you would like to say to the class Benji, Roxi, and Emma?”
She asked.
“How ‘bout,
‘sorry I moved here’?” Tia suggested.
“Tia, would
you kindly remove yourself from my classroom?” Mrs. Spencer asked her.
Tia got up
and left the classroom, not without giving the three, especially Emma, a nasty
glare.
“Alright, now
where were we? Oh right. So, Columbus started his voyage on....” Mrs. Spencer
continued, totally forgetting about what had caused the interruption.
