Episode 3 Officially Complete
With my 4th of July time off, I finally cranked out the last few minutes of Episode 3. Once I detail check the file and encode a finished copy, I'll examine the means I can use to get it to the website. My ETA for uploading is currently Friday night, the 6th of July. Which gives me all of 4 days to finish translating, encoding, and uploading Episode 4 if I'm going to make my deadline... and according to what I saw in Best Buy, I'm already late.
The official announced release date has not yet come, and I know they haven't pushed it up since I've got a pre-order in with Amazon, but Best Buy has copies available for sale of both the regular and special edition versions of Disc One. Since I've got a preorder, I didn't pick it up that day, but I did read the flavor text on the back... it's the same as the official summary on the Amazon site, and it still makes me want to faint every time I read it.
Luckily, I put no stock whatsoever in flavor text. As soon as I get my copy of the DVD, I'll watch a bit and post my review (both here and on Amazon).
Even if there are some DVDs commercially available, I'm going to try and keep from getting any more behind the official release schedule. Hopefully, I'll get further ahead of it after a bit. I've been trying to use this as a study tool, and as such have not watched any version of any episode that has someone else's translation on it. I understand that there were several good translators working on this series before the official release announcement, some of whose work I was very sorry to keep myself from watching, but it's far too easy for me to remember the words someone else did and not make myself parse a sentence the hard way. It's faster, sure... using the manga translation for xxxHoLiC as an aide, I was able to get through an episode in three hours flat... but since Shounen Onmyouji is my main means of study at the moment, I'm going to force myself to maintain that standard: I'll only watch episodes that I've already translated of the official version for review purposes. If I decide I don't like the official translation, I may not watch the rest at all, though I will still buy them for legitimacy's sake.
Okay, lunch break's over.
With any luck, I'll have episode 4 up before the 10th. We'll see.
