American Government Objectives

    The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the structure and purpose of American government and politics. The class is centered around four questions: (1) How was American Government and politics intended to work? (2) How does it work? (3) How should it work? (4) How can the individual become a more active component in American society? The course will involve significant student interaction and deductive reasoning with frequent and sometimes passionate debates. This course is required for graduation.


Economics Objectives

    The purpose of the Economics curriculum is fivefold. The students will understand the difficult means in which individuals, households, businesses, governments, and societies make choices and how they are influenced by incentives (economic and intrinsic) and the availability and use of scarce resources and that their decisions involve costs and varying ways of allocating. #2 The students will understand the basic features of microeconomics and its function within society. #3 Students will understand the crucial features of macroeconomics and be able to relate their knowledge to modern events. #4 The students will gain a sense of personal understanding of how economics effects them and strategies for managing their own finances. #5 Students will be able to actively display their knowledge obtained by making decisions regarding the nation's economic and social problems and predict how their solutions might benefit the country
