Working with knives is dangerous - please don't try this at home!
In training it is important to understand how a sharp object works and essentially how easy it is to get cut. The psychological aspect of facing a person wielding a knife is also an interesting learning experience.

Whilst in the early stages of skill developement soft, wooden or plastic training knives can be used. However it is best to use something more real if you want to be competent in this area.

The pictures in this section show some methods which can be used to control the knife and person wielding the knife. Keeping the arm or hand holding the knife in contact with or moving away from the body will deny the knife wielder of a second opportunity to cut you.
