Angst, angst, angst.

Tokyo is full of life tonight, just like every other night before. Even from a distance the lights of the city threaten to outshine the stars. The tall columns of the skyscrapers dominate the horizon. And Tokyo Tower itself stands like an accusing finger pointed at the Heavens. As if to call down the powers that be, to witness the glory of this sprawling metropolis.

Each light that shines is like a single dream, a hope held by a single human heart, perhaps even, a wish. The city is never dark, like so many places in this world. All bright lights and loud conversation. Slowly such places will expand, consuming every space that is granted to them. Tokyo Bay harbor is equally lit. And it isn’t so difficult to follow the trail of lights, like the tendrils of a creeping vine the spread outwards in all directions beyond the city limits.

All across Japan there are great furrows in the Earth, lined with steel and concrete pulling everything towards Tokyo. The lights spread outwards to form further clumps of cable and stone, cities like Osaka and Kobe, each with their own synthetic tendrils. So much has grown over the Earth that it seems as if the land itself has forgotten to breathe.

In all directions, out across the seas, is a proliferation of humanity. Spreading over everything that they can claim. What has not been destroyed, has been subjugated.

So now comes the end of all things, The Promised Day, The End of the World. When the last kekki falls the barrier that protects the world will be shattered. The Earth will be reborn. Yes, it will be at the expense of humanity but that in itself will be justice. Humanity has continued to thrive at the expense of the Earth, why then should the Earth not wish for change?

Change. It is the very reason for the Dragons of Earth, the Seven Angels. To destroy the kekki that protect humanity so that the Earth can be reborn. To shatter the Seven Seals, who are the Dragons of Heaven.

Heaven and Earth. The beginning and end of all things. Save one and doom the other. Who could make such a decision? Who would have the right?

Kamui, the one who welds the power of God’s will, or the one who hunts it. Which will it be? The broken boy who lost everything because of his destiny, which path would he choose? Despite all his bitterness and resentment Kamui did choose, he became the Kamui of the Dragons of Heaven. His fate to become the Seventh Seal, the final shield against humanity’s destruction. To protect…

Valuing the many small lives of humanity over the planet the Seven Seals fight to retain the world in the shape that they know it. They wish to protect all that they love, regardless of the consequences. And what is the will of the world in the face of that?

Or the sacrifice of a hand full of destinies? Fate places us on different sides, names us either Angel or Seal. In the end it is a destiny that can’t be escaped but can be reconciled because it has been chosen by a higher power. The fate of either side can be accepted, finally. Not so the fate of the world. Because above all the small cries of humanity, the destruction that is dealt out, the pain that is a daily occurrence, the cry for change rings louder than anything that humanity could ever dream off.

The Earth wishes for change. The Seals will be shattered and humanity will fall into oblivion. They have been judged and found wanting. Humanity does not deserve what they have been given, perhaps we never did. The world will be cleansed and… And perhaps it will all begin again.

Perhaps, the mistakes of the past will not be repeated this time or perhaps there will be no second chance. It may be that it is the best we can hope for, an end to everything.

Like my dreaming, with the end of all things it will finally cease. I will forget everything that was, a father and mother, a dear sister and a childhood friend or sweetheart, perhaps…

I will be the end of all things because I am Kamui. The Seventh Angel. And I was not given a choice.

Umm…

Somebody needs to give Fumma a hug. He gets such a raw deal with the whole being Kamui’s ‘twin star’ thing.
