BIOGRAPHY
In 1970,
Joe Hernandez graduated from Mission High School in Mission, Texas. He then
enlisted for four years in the US Air Force. After an honorable discharge
in 1974, he launched into a real estate career. Twelve years later Mr. Hernandez
had successfully achieved his goals as a real estate broker, and owner of
two Century 21 offices in N.E. San Antonio.
While highly motivated and optimistic, a great void lurked in Joe's heart.
In search for answers and self-fulfillment, he experienced a spiritual conversion
that changed his life, in March of '86. This led him to change his goals
and outlook on life. In July of '88, he returned to the Rio Grande Valley,
subsequently starting his full time art career. As a self-taught artist,
he spent the next nine years working in the commercial art field airbrushing
on vehicles, wall murals, commissioned pieces of art and T-shirts. Joe has
also painted 8 murals for Texas Wall-Marts In 1997, he started traveling
and experimenting in the fine arts. Since then, he has exhibited his art
in 30 Texas cities. Joe has also exhibited at the Donna Hooks Fletcher Historical
Museum, has had one man shows at the Hidalgo County Historical Museum and
at the McAllen Mexican Cultural Center. In addition, he has had engagements
and workshops at many public schools.
Mr. Hernandez uses a unique technique of brush, palette knife, and airbrush
mixed media on canvas. While self-taught, Mr. Hernandez gives all his credit
and glory to Jesus Christ, whom Joe has accepted as his Lord and Savior.
Amazing grace how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind,
but now I see.
