Is abortion and infanticide permitted in Islam?
The Glorious Quraan is very clear about this matter & says as follows:
Chapter number 6 verse number 151:
"Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom. "
When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -
For what crime she was killed; (81:8-9)
By the above verses form The Quraan,it is very clear that abortion & infanticide is a crime.This crime gets the punishment equivalent to that of murder under Islamic law.
However,its a common opinion amongst scholars that if abortion is carried out to save the life of the mother,it is permitted.
