Steps in Muslim Funeral

Islamic law and tradition have endowed the funeral with profound religious significance. A Muslim funeral should in every respect express the dignity, sanctity and modesty of a solemn religious service.

THE NEED FOR HASTE IN BURIAL

After death,if it is possible to arrange the burial of the deceased in the morning, one should not delay until late afternoon, for the Prophet(pbuh) has emphasised in Sahih Muslim ,Book 004, Number 2059:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: Make haste at a funeral; if the dead person was good, it is a good state to which you are sending him on; but if he was otherwise it is an evil of which you are ridding yourselves.

The scholars of islam have stated, If a person dies on a Friday, it is better to make all arrangements and bury the deceased before the Friday congregational prayer. Delaying funeral with the thought that there will be many more participants in the Funeral prayer after Friday prayer is undesirable & not in acordance with the command of the Prophet(pbuh).
Sometimes, on account of a certain relative being overseas and this persons inability to arrive quickly, for example because of unavailability of flight, burial is delayed for up to two or even three days. Muslims have been prohibited such a loathsome practice.
