John Gotti received mail
from his supporters all over the world and managed
to reply to the hundreds of letters he received.
Not allowed contact with other
prisoners, Gotti was forced to live out his days
confined to an 8 by 10 foot cell with a concrete
slab for a bed and a toilet. Despite these
conditions, John Gotti managed to stay
physically and emotionally strong. His demeanor was
positive.
On June 23, 1992, John Gotti was
sentenced to life without the possibility
of parole and delivered to Marion Penitentiary in
Illinois, the toughest
and most inhumane prison in the country. Nobody has ever
stayed
at Marion more than three years straight without getting
transferred
to another prison because it is so tough, twenty-three
hours a day lockup.
making it the longest stay
ever at Marion, over 8 years.
