| This page has been added to warn anyone who is thinking of buying a modular home the service that I have received from Select Homes of NC |
| Let me start off by givining you some background. Early in December 2001 I started looking for a house because of the ever increasing number of noisy neighbors that were moving into my apartment complex. I considered having a house built, but I didn't own any land. I remembered that a friend of mine has a Modular built home that they are very happy with. I started shopping the area and came across a company called Select homes. The 2 sales people were very friendly and seemed to know a thing or two about the house building industry. (They sure fooled me) Over the next 4 months they have managed to set and miss several delivery dates. Here are the dates that were promised : End of February March 21 April 12 I have to give them credit though. They did scratch around in the dirt and make it look like they did something though. Now they have once again promised the delinvery date to be April 24th. I can't believe that they will follow through with that date, but I will post updates as they happen. To top all of that off, I submitted my order for the house the second week of December 2001 hoping that I could move before too long and it was approved by the builders and the county. March 14th I recieved a letter from one of their builders stating that they couldn't put the fireplace in because of fire risks but they would substitute a more expensive gas log. I called the sales person and a couple of the people at the main office and told them that I didn't want the gas log, and if they had a concern, then I didn't want the gas log. I would work something else out. One week later, I got another letter about the house being started and that we needed to sign the amended palns which now included the gas log. I talked to them again and got them to change the plans and now they approved the wood fireplace. That was great! The very next day I got another call from one of their builders and he said that we couldn't do the wood fireplace because he didn't want the chimney to go up through the center of the attic. After arguing with him for an hour, he did ok the plan how it wa originally approved in December. So I don't want to say something bad against them, but if I had it to do over, I wouldn't buy from them again UPDATE: We finally got the house done after MANY failed inspections and delays. |
