| Welcome to the computer advice portion of my site. This will be in a constant state of construction. Everyone that has a computer can usually use some help, unless they are a genius. I don't claim to be that genius, but just someone offering some free advice. At the end of the page, there is a link section. I consider these to be VERY useful. I use some or all of these weekly if not Daily. If you are a computer genius, this probably won't be of any use to you, but feel free to browse the links anyway. |
| 1.) Virus protection I would consider virus protection at the very top of my list of important things. If you use your computer on the internet, or have ever used a floppy disk in your computer (which I would think includes almost all computers) you should have some sort of virus protection. I work on computers for a living and am amazed at the number of computers don't have any protection on them. On the computers that do have some form of virus protection, most of those haven't been updated for quite a while. More |
| 2.) Firewall protection What?? I don't have a fire in my house. Firewall protection is another thing that I would recommend for ALL users. A firewall is a piece of hardware or a program that runs on your computer that keeps other users on the internet from accessing anything on your computer without your permission. It used to be that only people who had high speed connections to the internet (ISDN, DSL, or Cable) needed to have a firewall. With the way the world is today, I think that everyone needs one. More |

| 3.) Word processing If you are in need of a program to do your term papers or any other word processing tasks, and don't have another $300 to give to Microsoft for yet another piece of software that will be full of bugs and security holes to endanger your machine, Here is a link to a software package that I have tried, and would recommend to everyone. It is 602 software. They have a free version that does most everything that you could want to do. If there is something that database related, or something that the program isn't able to do, there is a paid version with yet more ability. It is still much more affordable than even word perfect, and both versions are able to save your work in a microsoft readable format. The link is www.software602.com |
