Way back in 91' Mark's sister, Anne, introduced him to Tom, one of her friends at Rancho Bernardo High School. Within the next few days they had already begun to write music and even had the beginning to 'Carousel.' Tom recruited Scott Raynor on drums and became Duck Tape. A few days later they were renamed Blink (where does 182 come in? See below). They played at any San Diego clubs that would let them play, although none of them were old enough to hang out in the bars before or after sets. They toured relentlessly in a broken down, dirty van and released their first album, Cheshire Cat, as Blink 182. Album #2, Dude Ranch was out in 1997 and got them serious radio time and even some MTV play. Dude Ranch was also their first album with MCA Records. Sometime during 1998 fill-in drummer Travis Barker, from the Aquabats, permanently replaced Scott and in 1999 Enema of the State was released. It went multi-platinum in many countries and �All the Small things� became a Top 10 Single on Billboard (the only blink song to do so) in November of 1999. In November of 2000, the live album, the Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back) was released after blink had finished up the Loserkids tour which was followed by The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show in 2000. The live album included the enema reject �Man Overboard�. In June 2001, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket was released and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts.

Most people think that 182 actually has some meaning, but actually it doesn't any thing at all. After an Irish techno band (that has broken up) known as blink, threatened to sue the guys for using the same name, so they added a number to the end to avoid the suite. For some reason it was 182.
