Disclaimer: I don't own any of them. ConfessionsCatherine cursed Gil Grissom to hell and back for sending her to fetch Greg on his night off. Well fetch was the wrong word, more like bringing him home. Grissom had been called since an officer had found a very much drunk Greg Sanders about to get into his car and drive somewhere. Wondering what would get Greg to do something stupid like that she finally arrived at the bar the officer had said he had caught him, she looked around for a while until spotting Greg's car and an officer next to it. Not spotting the young man she got worried again, but when she got closer she could see him sitting on the sidewalk, leaning against the wall of the club he most likely had been at. Wondering whether the alcohol had finally caught up with him or whether he had sat down because he didn't want to sit, she talked to the officer, telling him that she was here to fetch Greg Sanders. Catherine couldn't decide which the case was as Greg looked down on the floor. Watching the officer return to his car and drive off she turned around and stepped closer to the young man. "Greg? Are you alright?" asked Catherine when he didn't show any reaction to her presence. It got the required effect as Greg looked up at her, a strange look on his face that Catherine couldn't identify clearly. She started to get worried when he didn't answer her, but before she could say anything Greg suddenly said, "You know, you're the most beautiful person I've ever met." Raising an eyebrow at that she offered her hand, "Come on, I'll bring you home." Greg however didn't make any move to get up, not moving his gaze from Catherine's face. "You know, I mean it. Never met anyone more beautiful or kind," insisted Greg, completely ignoring what she had said. Sighing she started to another attempt to get Greg to come with her when he continued, "Neither have I met anyone I fell in love with as deep as I did with you. Not even the crush I had on Grissom had been so deep and I'd had it pretty bad then." Now that surprised her and explained Greg's behaviour during the last few weeks, why he kept being distracted whenever she was around. Forgetting tests she'd ask him to do and having to ask for what she had said. In order to keep him out of trouble she had started writing him down what she wanted to be done and although he had never said anything about it she knew that he was glad she did it. And it put the way Greg got along with Lindsey in a whole new light and to think that she thought that he'd make a great dad one day while all the time he had apparently tried to be the missing dad for Lindsey. She was startled out of her thoughts when Greg continued, "I just wish I had a chance, but I can't fault you for getting it on with Grissom. He's pretty hot and he knows how to take care of someone, even if he doesn't show it pretty often." Now that explained why Greg Sanders had gotten drunk. He must have found out about her Grissom. Before she could try to deny it, Greg looked down again mumbling something softly. A second later he said loudly, "You know it's one thing to know that someone you fell in love with is taken, but an entirely different thing to seeing it for yourself?" Well, denying it was out of order. Greg apparently knew for sure that something was going on, but he couldn't keep getting drunk whenever he saw them together. Sighing again she grabbed Greg's hand and pulled him up. "What am I supposed to do with you Greg?" asked Catherine herself when Greg pulled himself free and leaned against the wall again, at least he remained standing. He apparently pulled himself together as his expression suddenly changed to his normal, if weary face. Catherine would have liked to throw her hands up and exclaim men loudly when Greg said, "It's ok; I can get home on my own. No need to..." "No Greg you can't. You're drunk and risking an accident! Who'll keep Lindsey company when she's staying at the lab? And who's taking care of the spirit around the lab if you're gone?" asked Catherine, trying to get Greg to see reason. However, the answer she hoped for, didn't come, "It doesn't matter either way." She wanted to cuss and curse when she heard the answer, seeing for the first time how much Greg hurt inside and to think that he apparently tried suppressing this, trying to get over it for her sake mad her hurt. "Greg, it matters to me. Who's going to joke around and lighten my mood during a gruesome case? You know Gil's not the best for that," Catherine sighed in relief when Greg only looked away, but gave her his keys and answered, "I'm not sure whether I got the door open yet or not." Nodding she checked that the doors to Greg's car were all locked before turning around and putting her arm around his waist, leading him to the passenger seat of her car. Seeing that he didn't need any further help she walked over to her side and got into the car. Now that some time had gone by since she first arrived she could see that either Greg didn't drink as much as she initially thought or he could take more than she thought. Either way he wasn't able to drive home safely. On second thought however she decided to bring him to her house as he might just continue drinking if he was alone. Not that that would be much of a change, but Lindsey had pronounced that she was old enough to stay at home alone when she found out that Greg had the night off and Catherine doubted that Greg would do anything too stupid if he realised Lindsey was around. Having decided that she turned around, heading to her house. Her thoughts were interrupted when Greg said seconds after she turned around, "You know that isn't the way to my flat." "I know. I don't know however whether you'll drink more when you get home or not or decide to do something stupid and since Lindsey decided she was old enough to stay alone at home when she heard that you had the night off I decided that I'd rather leave you under her watch. I've seen the way you adore her and know that you wouldn't do anything stupid around her that is anything but funny," answered Catherine in a matter of fact tone. A quick look to the side revealed Greg's serene face when Lindsey was mentioned, proofing her that it was a good idea to bring him to her house. The rest of the ride was spent in silence, Greg obviously deciding that it was no use trying to deny what he had said and thinking about what it would do to their working relationship and more importantly to their friendship. When they arrived five minutes later, Catherine was less than pleased to note that Lindsey was still up despite her promise to be in bed no later then 9pm, a good hour earlier. Well it mad things easier for now. Getting Greg out of the car and moving to the door was more difficult than getting him in the car as he was apparently realising what staying at Catherine's house meant. Deciding to lighten the mood Catherine said, "You're not suddenly afraid of staying with Lindsey alone, are you?" Instead of saying something Greg just shook his head slightly and started walking to the door. Before Catherine could think about opening the door it was opened from the inside and an exited Lindsey asked, "Why are you here already? Did something happen? And I thought Greg had the night off?" "Greg's not feeling to well right now and I was called to fetch him and bring him home, but by the way he looked I decided that I'd rather have him stay where someone can make sure that he doesn't get worse and we'll talk about your promise to be in bed by 9 tomorrow morning," answered Catherine smiling at her daughters enthusiasm and blush at the reminder about her promise. She walked Greg over to the couch where Lindsey had gotten comfortable watching a movie and fetched him a pillow and a blanket. After making sure that they had everything they needed she said goodbye and returned to her car, returning to work. At least it was a quiet night with not much going on; it left her with enough time to talk with one Gil Grissom about the confessions she had heard less than thirty minutes ago. The End |
