A WORD FROM WILLIE

 “From Round-Up to Fall Festival”

Praise the Lord!  It is so good to be writing to you again!  It has been so exciting to see the Lord’s hand upon Immanuel and to see Him pour His blessings down upon this body of believers. I also am so excited about the additions of Terri and Rick Howze to the Immanuel Family last Sunday.  Keep on praying for those who are considering joining the sweet fellowship of Immanuel Baptist Church.  Again, I am hearing everywhere I go about the wonderful people and the loving fellowship of Immanuel.  Please continue to welcome visitors who walk through our doors and make them feel at home.

Was “Round-Up Sunday” a great day or what?  When all was said and done, we welcomed at least 220 people.  It was a wonderful day beginning with Sunday School. The adults experienced fabulous fellowship and brilliant Bible study.  We also saw oodles and boodles of children in Sunday School.  Then the children moved over to “The Harbor” (Children’s Church) for an exciting time.  The adult worship service was wonderful.  Gerald did a great job of leading us in worship and the special music was a blessing.  After the adult and children’s services, we met together for a great time filled with Fun, Food, and Fellowship.  There was more food than you could shake a stick at. Bernie barbequed a hog, and steamed lots of shrimp.  Tilly brought the fried chicken, and everybody brought their best covered dish creations.

Congratulations to Bubba for winning the “Men’s Cake Baking Contest”.  There were lots of activities from hayrides to four wheelers to horseshoe competitions to a greased pig chasing contest.  There were only two down notes to mention.  The pig wouldn’t run, and the youth didn’t want the adults to feel bad, so they let the adults win in volleyball. (Maybe next year, young people).

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make Round-up Sunday a day to remember and to Lois Gainey and all of the people who helped in the kitchen and decorations.  It was truly a wonderful day in the Lord!

I hope to see everyone participating in the Fall Family Festival Thursday night, October 31.  Come, invite your friends, and join in the fun.  There will be food, games, prizes, hayrides, and lots and lots of candy.  What a great time we’ll have together!!

                                          Love in Christ,
                                          Pastor Willie

10:45 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE

HEAVEN...
GOT  QUESTIONS??
Join us on Sunday, November 10, when Fred Overton, Jr. a renown Bible scholar, will lead us in our worship services as he deals with thoughts on heaven.  Some questions you may have are:
Where is heaven?
Will you be married in heaven?
When do you go to heaven?
How do you get to heaven?
Will you know one another in heaven?
Will you know one another in heaven?
Do those in heaven know what is taking place on earth?
What age will you be in heaven?
What will you do in heaven?
The purpose of this seminar is to help develop a Biblical understanding of heaven in order to know what lies ahead after this life.

October is Clergy Appreciation Month and in celebration of this special occasion, there will be a reception to honor our ministers and their wives this Sunday night, October 20, in Moody Hall immediately following the evening worship hour.  God’s Word calls us to support clergy:  “And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience.  Overwhelm them with appreciation and love.  I Thessalonians 5:12-13  Come, and show your thanks and support for their work here at Immanuel.

MINISTRIES AND MISSIONS

For several years, many of you have been a part of “Operation Christmas Child”, the shoe box ministry sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse where you wrap a shoe box in Christmas paper and fill it with gifts for a child.  The opportunity awaits you again this year to be a part of fulfilling this need.  Last year 5.4 million shoe boxes were distributed in 94 countries.  This year’s goal is 6 million boxes to be distributed to 100 countries.  Brochures are available in the church office with simple instructions that you are to follow. Please bring your filled shoe box (or boxes) by the church office no later than Sunday, November 24.
Another project that has been a part of Immanuel’s Christmas ministry is “Christmas Packets for Prisoners”.  Packet items should include:  One non-retractable pen (no wire clip); One 6 oz. or larger toothpaste; One adult toothbrush (factory sealed); One 4 to 6 oz. bar of soap; One 50 page 5 1/2 x 8 or larger writing tablet (no wire bound); Five stamp embossed envelopes; One 1 7/8 to 2 oz. package of peanuts; Two rolls of mints (Lifesaver type).  Put all items in a one gallon zip lock bag.  Prisoner bags are due in the church office by Sunday, December 1.  Do not add any items to those listed above.  If you cannot find the requested size, larger sizes may be substituted.
