911 MEMORIAL SERVICE
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8
10:45 A.M.

September 11, 2001,
a day now etched in history.

Exhausted and sick at heart in the midst of this tragedy, the firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers rallied and kept searching.  And everyone pulled together in shared shock and grief.  Our world will never be the same, but in God do we trust!  Join us as we honor the memory of those lives taken, and salute those who serve to defend and protect our country.  This is a time for looking back and looking ahead; for remembrance and for moving forward.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  Psalm 46:1

A WORD FROM WILLIE

“Thanks for the Laborers!”
Matthew 4:35-38:  35  And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36.  But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37.  Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38.  "Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

John 4:35  Say not ye, “There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest?”  Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Jesus wants you and me to know that the harvest is now!  It is time for the harvest and I want to thank the Lord for the laborers!  Last Wednesday night we had a business meeting where we as a church body agreed together to accept those committee members and Sunday School teachers and workers.  I was so excited when we started to talk about positions in the areas of Sunday School and Missions needing to be filled that people started volunteering to fill those positions.  I have yet to have one person whom I have asked to fill a position that has said no.  God is opening our eyes to the possibilities of what He is doing and will do here at Immanuel.

The other night a member of this church and I were talking about the growth in attendance of Immanuel.  We sat there and figured that within the last six weeks, our attendance in the Sunday morning worship service has grown by 60%.  That means that our worship attendance has grown approximately 10% a week for the past six weeks.  That is awesome!  Most churches would love to have 10% growth in a year’s time and we have grown in attendance by 60% in six weeks!  OUR GOD IS SO GOOD!!!

What that means is that we need more laborers for the harvest!  I told the nominating committee that they will be busy all year enlisting more teachers and workers.  We already have started two new adult Sunday School classes and are looking to start more. We have started RA’s & GA’s and Mission Friends.  God is blessing us with laborers for the task.  If you can see what God is doing and know that you need to jump aboard and serve the Lord, call me or Jeanette and we will help you get plugged in.  Thanks for your willingness to serve and thanks to the Lord of the harvest.

                                                Love in Christ, Pastor Willie

APPRECIATIONS
Dear Pastor, Immanuel Family and Staff,
I appreciate all of your care and support shown to me at the hospital and during my recovery.  Thank you for the visits, cards, and especially your prayers.  God has blessed me with a caring church family.
In Christian Love, Michelle Wilkes and Family

Dear Friends,
David and I want to thank you for the contribution to Summerton Baptist Church in memory of Mother, [Doris T. Holladay].  We enjoyed our months at Immanuel with you so much, and we are so touched by your expression of concern and for your prayers for us during this time.  David is presently in China and joins me in expressing our deep appreciation to you all.
                              Love, Pam Dinkins

WMU on the Move
Hats off to all the Immanuel ladies who were instrumental in helping to make our Annual Fall WMU Leadership Meeting a success.  There were approximately seventy-five ladies in attendance, and the group seminars were enlightening for all of the WMU leaders at Immanuel as well as the other nine churches in the Florence Baptist Association who had WMU leaders attending.
I would like to thank all of you who have supported our missions programs at Immanuel throughout my tenure as WMU Director.  It has truly been a joy and a blessing to have served in this capacity.  Your generous giving to our special missions offering each year proved your love and interest in missions.  As our thoughts turn to the new year, we congratulate Jennie Lewis, and offer our support in all the mission work that lies ahead.
                                                         Polly Howle
