Setsuna Angel Sanctuary Lost Angel artbook KilluaX/Neji was planning to cosplay as Kira and, in need of fanservice-ish Kira/Setsuna piccies, I decided that I would cosplay as Setsuna. I had originally hoped to finish this on time for Hallowe'en so I could take piccies around UofT with Reiciel and Nurikyo, but Yuzuki was time consuming enough as it was. I really love this artbook picture of Setsuna and it's fairly recognisable, unlike a lot ofhis other outfits, so I gave this a shot. This is just version 1.0 because I still have to make myself some thigh-high bootcovers, find a hat, buy a new wig, get some new gloves and then get some new pants that will actually fit under the bootcovers...there's also that weird zipper on the side of his pants...Too bad I didn't find any other AS charas to take pics with at the con on Sunday. =\

Jacket: Shiny, thick and generally wonderful, but prone to fraying and very, very slippery, this material was really what made me decide upon actually completeing this costume, in the end. I bought a pattern for a jacket with a mandarin collar and altered it to fit the odd and interesting design of Setsuna's. I paid careful attention to the pocket placement as they're actually on the side of his outfit instead of being at the very front and the breast pocket is only on one side. The jacket snaps closed with the requisite number of snaps and the beltloops hold the belt between the right snap numbers. Belts: Thick black belt and clear plastic belt with silver loops and buckle bought at Goodwill. The silver 'buckle' details on the black belt were fabric-painted craft foam and the clasp fot attaching the second belt to the first was also painted with silver fabric paint. The clear belt was first painted with model-paint enamel and, failing that, was coated with clear nail polish, a layer of glaze and then painted over using grey acrylic in several layers to make it completely opaque. The belt was cut to the right length and then the belt was continued down my back using grey fabric left over from the shirt/vest. The black belt actually buckles at the back of the jacket. Hair and Eyes: A blonde wig bought last minute. Setsuna's hair is very dark in the picture, but it's sometimes very blonde and/or sandy brown, so I chose one based on the style of hair and this was the best I could find. This was my first time buying and wearing a wig for any costume (aside from Yuzuki, whose wig I made myself) and it was quite a task getting my hair to stay put underneath it. Setsuna has brown-grey eyes, most of the time, though they look to be a different colour each in this artwork. I did not use contacts. Pants: Grey pants I bought at Goodwill. They're actually rather icky and I think I shall hack them into shorts when I do make bootcovers so that the bootcovers won't have to fit over top of any fabric. Gloves, Footwear and Accessories: I was unable to purchase gloves on time for this convention, so these were the gloves from my Tifa costume. The boots were knee-highs that I had just bought and loved to death (also the ones from my Isshi and monkey costumes) since I didn't have the time or energy to make bootcovers again. I left my whip at home, since I was going to borrow a crop from a friend, but that didn't work out. I couldn't find a hat on time.

Construction: Shirt: Sleeveless to lower warmth of costume. Full zipper down the centre with a turtleneck-ish neck. Created by extreme alteration of the jacket pattern. It's actually both cool and comfortable and I can actually wear the shirt as normal clothing. I just used broadcloth I had left-over from an RPG character project that never came to fruition and it was perfect. Unfortunately, the collar sits a little too high as compared to the original artwork.
