Relena Darlian Peacecraft // Relena Dorian Peacecraft
Shin Kidousenki Gundam Wing

This would have never happened if I'd had some starch.  Honestly, I was nagged by some of my friends about whether or not I was going to go in costume to a Halloween even and I decided (without telling them) that I would dress up as someone.  I knew I couldn't make a decent costuem in the short amoutn of time I had, so I was planning to just go in my Makoto costume except for two things: a) I'd have to ask Bardiel about those shoes again and b) the pleats were nearly non-existent and I had no starch with which to recreate them.  After trying to find a plain-clothes character I could look like, I settled on making use of an old red blazer that had been handed down from one of my cousins.  I hate Relena, but my hair's closer to hers than Dorothy's.  Though this costume was originally going to be re-made for Anime North, it was re-used at the JCCC dance in July.

one, so I ended up using it at the dance, since it was thinner and, therefore, not as hot as the one I used for Halloween.  The collar was also correct this time, except that It didn't go as high up my neck, so I couldnt' tie the ribbon around it.

Ribbon/Bowtie-type thing:
I cut the bottom off a hand-me-down long underwear shirt I wasn't planning on ever wearing.  When I do this I'll try to find an actual piece of white ribbon.

Version 2.0: Since I wasn't planning on using this at the dance (I was going to go as Kanako), I didn't have time to find thick enough white ribbon, so I used some white bias tape I had ready to use for my Megumi costume, since I can always get more of it if i need it for that costume.

Blazer:
Another hand-me-down (I'm the youngest cousin on my mother's side, so I get a lot of those -_-  Especially since I have dozens of cousins) which I decided from the moment I saw it was going to be good for cosplaying.  It didn't have poofy shoulders, was too long and completely red with black buttons.  I didn't have time to alter the sleeves, shorten it, or alter the sides so that it didn't go straight down, but I did cover the lapel with black fabric (cut from an old pair of swim trunks which belonged to one of my cousins) and painted the buttons with the gold paint I'm using for my RED XIII costume.

Skirt:
I "borrowed" this from my mother (well...to be honest, I filched it from her old closet without telling her...*wince*). I'm amazed it fit me, since she's skinny beyond belief and I'm...*ahem*...umm...less so (understatement).  I discovered when I changed out of my costume later that one off the buttons is loose *wince*; I'll have to fix that.  It was too long, but that's alright, since my legs aren't perfect and I'm not about to alter it.

Version 2.0: I completely forgot about fixing that button and...after the dance...it's gone.  *sweatdrop*  Yeah, I probably gained some weight. -_-;  *sigh*

Shoes:
I didn't have time to look for the proper shoes (nor did I have th emoney, which is another reason I settled for a smack-'em-together costuem for this), so I settled for wearing my school shoes sans sock.s  If I do end up re-doing this, I'll find myself more time to consider footwear.

Version 2.0: Or not.  I ended up wearing the high heels from my Yomiko costume.

Hair Accessories
: I found some blue elastics and I also realised I had a spool of blue ribbon left over from my craft obsessed days (I miss all that free time I had in elementary school p-q *sob*), so I used those to tie my braids.

Hair:
My own, natural hair.  Relena's hair is obviously lighter, but at least my hair's about the same length, right?  I don't have bangs, but the braids are recognisable enough that I don't think it matters too much.  Bardiel tied to bows for me, since I didn't have a mirror handy when I was putting the finishing touches on my hair on the way to the event.

Eyes:
The colour of Relena's eyes definitely doesn't match my own, but I haven't been able to spare the time to look into non-prescription contact lenses.  Besides, this was a costume prepared on little notice and with little effort (lets face it: Homework comes before cosplay).

Construction:

Shirt: I ransacked my mother's old closet, since I'd seen a shirt which I felt could b eused for a costume such as this, but, when I found what I was looking for, it ended up being way too small.  I ended up using a large white shirt handed down from one of my cousins (who's too tall for his own good >_<).  The collar wasn't right, but I tried ot make it look as believable as possible.  The cuffs were also wrong, but the shirt sleeves were long on me so that the white stuck out of the blazer anyway.  I'll make it from scratch next time.

Version 2.0: Frilly white shirts are in this season, apparently, and my mother bought me
