Kurogane Megumi
Gatekeepers
Keeper of Iron Wall

Megumi is a character I chose to cosplay as soon as I saw the first three episodes of Gatekeepers and started looking for a chara from that series.  At first, it was because she looked similar to me (well, okay, Ruriko looks more like me) and I really like the quiet, intelligent characters, but after finding out more about her character, I've realised that Megumi is exactly like me.  In all the anime I've seen and manga I've read, I've never found a character that reminds me so much of myself.  So it's fitting that I cosplayed Megumi for at least one con.

A lot of people dislike Megumi, but I think they just don't understand her well enough.  Of course, I don't like myself either, so.....*shrugs*

I didn't do that great a job...But it's harder than it looks to make a sailor collar like that.  >.<;  Instead of the collar making that slope directly from mid-neck to shoulder, my collar just goes flat along my shoulders and the collar is actually a bit too big...>.<;  I'm very happy with how the cuffs turned out, though. ^___^

White stripes: The wonder that is white bias tape....lol.  The sewing on the botttom of the skirt was a bit sloppy, but there were no workmanship awards, so what did it matter? -_-;;;

Sash: I used some fabric left over from my father's failed attempt to make new curtains.  lol.  He should've left the sewing to me!  But now I've got a good amount of this gorgeous wine red cloth. ^___^  So naturally, instead of buying new red fabric, I wanted to make use of this.  It makes beautiful shadows, even though they probably didn't show up in any pictures.  If I'd had more time, I would've made it so that the sash poked out from under the collar in that way it does in the anime, but I didn't. >.<;  I could've always sewn it to the collar, but I wanted to make it an actual sash that went all the way around under the collar.

Skirt:
First time I'd ever made a skirt from scratch. O.o;  Would've thought a skirt would be easy, but of course not. -_-;  I bought a pattern, but I didn't realise the pleats only went on the front of the skirt...Grr.....>.<;  And they were the wrong type of pleats, anyway.  I had to change the pattern slightly so that it ended up box pleated in the front.  I think it turned out alright, but I messed up a little on the button holes.  This skirt is something I might actually wear normally, though. O.o;

Shoes
: The same shoes used for my Makoto costume.  This time Bardiel gave them to me, since they don't fit her well at all.  I really like these shoes, so I'm very grateful.  Thank you, Bardiel! ^_^

Hair Accessory:
Not really any accessories for Megumi.  She has blue hair elastics, so I was able to do that.  ^^;

Hair
: My own, natural hair.  It's about the right colour, though mine's brown and her's is black, and about the right length, so I just went with that. ^_^v  I was thinking of using wire to make my hair stick out like hers does, but I decided it would look too fake.

Eyes:
My eyes are near enough to hers that I didn't give any thought to it. ^^;

Socks:
I got some white knee socks handed down to me from a cousin..lol.  Not quite the plain socks she has, but I didn't want to try and make myself socks. x_x;  And I didn't have any extra time/money to find perfect socks. ^^;

Glasses:
I bought some round-frame sunglasses and, even though they were a bit small, I didn't think I could make my own glasses, so I punched out the lenses.  I've always wanted to have glasses (though I don't want the faulty vision that would lead to glasses), so I've taken to just wearing the frames around...I get many odd looks, but bleh. XP

Construction:

Shirt:
Base:  First shirt I've ever made from scratch.  ^^;  I used a shirt pattern I'd bought for a different costume and altered it significantly until it was more like a normal shirt (I didn't want to buy a normal shirt pattern, so I decided to alter the non-normal shirt pattern...lol...).

Collar: I drew my own pattern onto some newspaper (first pattern I've drawn from scratch) and it turned out alright....but
