The Fletch movied was released by Universal Pictures in 1985.
Starring Chevy Chase in the title role, the film roughly followed the exploits of Irwin M. Fletcher, as he investigated the drug problem on the beach of L.A. (and we're talking the hard stuff), and on the side, being contracted by millionaire Alan Stanwyk to murder him, so Stanwyk's wife could inherit the insurance money from his death.

The movie was billed as 'Meet the man who changes his identity more than his underwear', and indeed the comial talent of Chevy Chase shines through with quick one-liners and disguises.
Also starring the talent of Joe Don Baker (Chief Karlin), Dana Wheeler-Nicholson (Gail Stanwyk), Tim Matheson (Alan Stanwyk), Richard Libertini (Frank), George Wendt (Fat Sam) and William Traylor as Mr. Underhill.

In my opinion, Fletch has lost nothing over the years, and is as enjoyable now as it was then. Really recommended on DVD.
