5.01 – Chloe Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Chloe, who has recently had a miscarriage, has continued her life like nothing had happened. She decides to visit the sperm bank in order to get pregnant again but after talking with the doctor she realises she won’t be able to. This being the final straw, Chloe decides to say goodbye to Springfield and start a new life in journalism. As she packs up her belongings, Marge is determined to convince Chloe to stay. Homer, on the other hand, is worried that Marge is considering tagging along with Chloe and their relationship is as good as over. Homer begins to perform niceties to Marge, unbeknown to him she isn’t leaving.
5.02 – A Midsummer Nightclub’s Dream
With Chloe gone, Marge feels somewhat empty in her life and becomes determined to make a new friend. She decides to go on a YMCA-organized “lady’s night out” but is horrified to discover that the other women use it as an excuse to pick up men. Marge must now find a way of getting herself out of the allocated nightclub without arousing any suspicion, but is in panic when she realises that Homer is in the club and is having the same problem with Barney. She then undergoes a race to get to the door first, but she and Homer soon encounter each other. They are both shocked but decide to enjoy the night out together.
5.03 – Fast Times at Springfield Day-Care Centre
Homer and Marge agree to leave Bart at a day-care to spend a romantic weekend away. After Homer and Marge depart, Bart is instantly caught up in trying to get back his parents but realises escape is impossible. Communicating with the other babies a la “Rugrats”, Bart becomes determined to formulate an escape plan, ultimately trying to get back home and find their parents. Bart enjoys having the reputation as “the bad one” but worries he will let everyone down if something goes wrong. Meanwhile, Marge and Homer arrive at their hotel suite and feel ashamed when they realise other married couples have brought their children.
5.04 – The Band That Rocks the Cradle
Homer decides to round up Barney, Lenny and Carl for one final comeback for their band. When they manage to get a gig at the Springfield Square, they have a lot of practising to do and have nowhere to do it. Marge reluctantly accepts Homer’s plea to practise in the apartment, however she soon realises what a stupid mistake she has made when young Bart can’t deal with the loud music. Marge finally kicks Homer and his friends out, and with only one day until the comeback, they need another place to practise, fast. As they frantically rush around town, Marge is feeling guilty for kicking them out in the first place.
5.05 – Chicken Pox Run
An epidemic of chicken pox has hit Springfield, causing Marge to worry about Bart. She decides to put him in quarantine and confine him to the apartment. Homer advises her that it is better for Bart to get it at an early age, but Marge isn’t too sure and continues to keep him locked up. Whilst Marge is away one evening working at Moe’s Tavern, she trusts Homer to keep Bart safe. However, Homer disobeys her orders and takes Bart to a child sick with chicken pox. Homer soon realises that Bart has acquired a particularly bad case of chicken pox, and faces a dangerously ill son and a furious Marge.
5.06 – The Sun That Got Away
Homer and Marge are afraid of Bart catching a cold with the chilly weather and book a week-long vacation to Hawaii. However, on their arrival they are horrified to discover the beautiful island is undergoing a heavy rain storm, confining people to their hotels. Homer and Marge are forced to make the most of their vacation but are in panic when they realise that Bart has wandered into the storm. Homer decides to risk his safety and rescue Bart but things turn for the worse when thunder begins to crack. Not only that, but Bart has foolishly taken shelter under a metallic dumpster and could be shocked at any moment!
5.07 – The Most Wonderful Time of the Month
Bart manages to aggravate Marge and he doesn’t know why. Homer tries to explain to Bart in an understandable manor that it is “that time of the month”, but Bart still doesn’t comprehend. Marge’s raging hormones result in her shouting at Bart and sending him to his room. Bart, who has had enough, busts out of his room and begins a new life on the streets. However as the night approaches, he realises how good he had it with his parents and begins to miss Marge in particular. Meanwhile, Marge and Homer frantically search for Bart but Marge does nothing more than blame herself for him running away.
5.08 – Jumping the Shark
Homer decides to take Bart on a father/son fishing trip at Lake Springfield. Soon, Homer and Bart find themselves bonding for the first time and Homer as a father couldn’t be happier. However, when Homer is dragged into a lake by an exceptionally strong fish, he gets himself into a life-threatening situation with a shark, and Bart is the only one around to save him. Whilst struggling against the shark Homer must guide young Bart in seeking help and soon Marge arrives on the scene and Homer’s life is saved. Homer thanks Bart for saving him and treats him to a day out to all the fun activities in Springfield.
5.09 – Smoking and the Bandit
Homer takes up smoking to relieve stress after a tough day at the SNPP. When Bart catches him with a cigarette Homer is quick to think of a lie. Homer must now stop Bart from blabbing to Marge about it, however she soon finds out and is furious. Not only has he started smoking but he has also lied about it. Marge is convinced that Homer should tell Bart the truth. Homer is reluctant but takes Bart to a tobacco company to convince him that smoking is wrong and illegal. But when he finds Bart trying out a cigar in his mouth, Homer is horrified and decides to give up smoking himself. Marge couldn’t be prouder.
5.10 – Bar Wars: Episode III
Marge must work at Moe’s Tavern just as a large hurricane begins. Whilst worrying about Homer and Bart back at home, Marge must go to extreme lengths for safety precautions in the bar. An injured patron shows up and collapses on the pool table. Marge and Moe must now work together to nurse the patron and keep him healthy. Meanwhile, Homer is determined to get to Marge in Moe’s Tavern but must do something with Bart. Dropping him off at Patty and Selma’s, Homer hops into the car and drives furiously towards Moe’s. Trouble arises when he realises the hurricane has only just started – and is heading towards Bart.
5.11 – Sex and the Springfield
Homer and Marge are horrified when Bart catches them being intimate with each other. Homer must now explain to Bart what he saw, but worries that he will be scarred forever by the information. Instead, Homer comes up with a child-like lie and is relieved when Bart believes him. However, he and Marge are in panic when they realise that Bart has told all his day-care mates about Homer’s lie. Homer realises he has more work to do when Marge orders that he tells Bart the truth. Homer reluctantly accepts but ends up telling a lie, ultimately resulting in parents crowding round the apartment, furious at both Marge and Homer.
5.12 – L.A. Unconfident
Marge decides to quit her job at Moe’s Tavern to focus more on being a mother. But soon after a week she is already tiring of hanging around the house. Leaving Bart with Homer, Marge decides to pay Chloe a visit in Los Angeles. She is horrified to discover how much Chloe has changed over the months and is much more of a journalist. With Chloe’s new persona their friendship is now in question. Marge is upset when Chloe dismisses her and becomes determined to get her revenge by ruining her recent article. But Marge is ridden with guilt when she realises not only has she ruined Chloe’s career, but has also gotten her arrested!
5.13 – A Sis-Star is Born
Marge has a surprise – she is pregnant for the second time after her moment of intimacy with Homer 2 weeks ago. Homer couldn’t be happier and he and Marge look into buying a bigger home. Bart, on the other hand, takes this news too seriously and believes that Homer and Marge want to “get it right this time”. Homer is sent in to tell Bart otherwise but he still isn’t convinced. Finally, Homer and Bart move into 742 Evergreen Terrace and Marge returns with little Lisa from the hospital. Bart, unable to be mad at her, swears he will be the perfect big brother, and the Simpsons sit down to watch the television together.
