Nick stared at the doctor in disbelief. How could this have
happened? He had been so careful and particular. He wasn’t like his other friends
by any means. But why had it happened to him?
“I know this might take awhile to sink in,” Dr. Sherman
said, patting Nick on the shoulder. “I’m going to send you home with some
pamphlets. I’d like to see you back here in about a week so we can go over
treatment options and medication.”
He hesitated before taking the stack of information from
the doctor’s outstretched hand. He stepped off the table, feeling as though he
had Jell-O for legs.
“Would you like me to call someone, Nick?”
Nick shook his head, not wanting to share his news with
anyone at the moment. His head was full of questions that no one could answer.
