My Top 10 Websites

This is in cast anyone was ever wondering what my favorite websites are.

#1: X-Entertainment.com
I sometimes think this is the best site on the whole internet, or at least the best site for its subject matter - Pop culture of the 80's and 90's. I especially love the stuff on old cartoons and video games, and there are some things on here that are just unbelievable...like the Worst Witch Tim Curry Music Video and the worst Wrestler ever, the Shockmaster. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you just have to go to the site and see for yourself.

#2: Ghostbusters.net
I'm one of the world's biggest Ghostbusters fans, and this is one of the best Ghostbusters sites out there. Although some fan sites are much better for humorous articles and artwork, this site has an excellent message board and you can even download and watch episodes of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon show! A definite plus in my book!

#3: Classic Gaming.com
This site hosts some really great websites dedicated to particular oldschool games and game series, such as Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Super Mario Bros., Oldschool Final Fantasy and Mega Man, Dragon Warrior, Battletoads, River City Ransom, Guardian Legend, Kirby, Metroid, Pac-Man, Shadowgate, Splatterhouse, as well as a whole site for 'shmups, funny game quotes, and the classic review archive.

#4: David Wonn's Unique Video Game Glitches
This site just completely blows my mind. I always feel compelled to read every single new update, even if I don't own the game that the glitch is for. I can't believe some of the glitches that these people find in these games! Just when you thought you knew everything there was to know about your favorite video games, think again!

#5: The OPCFG
The Organization for the Preservation of Classic Forms of Gaming, is what that stands for (I think). Dire 51's site is truly one of my favorites, and I think the import reviews and the "special features" really make it shine. I find it worth checking every day for new updates.

#6: Portal of Evil News
This is about the only place I get my daily news from, anymore. (I don't know whether that's sad or not.) But some of the new stories that get posted here will truly make you wonder if the apocalypse is upon us. Oh, yeah, and I know this is only part of Portal of Evil.com, but I pretty much only visit the news section and corresponding message boards.

#7: About.com's Urban Legends and Folklore
"A friend of a cousin's brother's great-grandmother's nephew thrice removed told me this story and it's absolutely TRUE!!" Yeah, we've all heard that. Or how about, "The story in this email is absolutely true so pass it on to as many people as possible!" I think this is the best site for debunking those old urban myths, and many of them are just plain funny to read (even though they never posted a rather common one that I submitted to them *cough*cough*"The Rose"*cough*cough*.) Learn all about the exploding toilet, the snake in the ballpit, and other folklore, unless, like me, you've already heard them a dozen times before.

#8 & #9: A Tie - The 8-Bit Toaster & NES Horsemen
I think these are two of the best video game humor fansites since the Video Game Humor Homepage (which I also love, but sadly, is no longer updated.) Both of these are maintained by people I know fairly well on the internet, and it's always a blast reading material from these two guys, Hobbes/Tails (8-Bit Toaster) and Mercury Crusader (NES Horsemen), be it on their sites or their message board posts.

#10: Crawl and 1000's Page
This is my boyfriend's site, so I'm obligated to put it on here! =P Seriously, though, it's not as though the site hasn't earned it's place. Crawl's an excellent game review writer, and I think a lot of wannabe game reviewers out there could learn a thing or two from him. He also has some of the most hilarious joke reviews I've ever seen.

Okay, I said it was a Top 10, and it was, but people are always asking me what my favorite sites are, so I thought I'd just go the whole distance, and list the rest of them, too (in the order in which I think of them). So without further adieu, here are the "honorable mentions":

The Video Game Music Archive
All the video game midis you could ever possibly want. I've spent hours listening to stuff on this site, and it's mostly where I get my site's midis from.

FeFeA.org
I found this site by chance via a search somehow, and I've "lurked" quite a bit at its message board, though I've never actually posted anything...There are some really interesting topics there, though, and the "Sardius Experience" subsite has some really neat material, too!

RoyalRanger's NES Site
An excellent NES site and it has a really good message board community, too. (Damn, I need to post there more often!)

Game Grandpas
StarSoldier's site has a ton of capsule reviews for games of all systems, and it's really nice to see another reviewer who doesn't abuse the ten-point scale and give everything an 8, 9, or 10! He also has some excellent taste in games (R-Type and Guardian Legend), and really decent fan art.

The Video Game Humor Homepage
No longer updated, but this still is one of my favorite video game humor sites. The animated gifs and Top 10's are side-splitting!

The NES Enshrined
What you see here is an archive of Diefwolf's old, but legendary, NES site. This site is no longer updated and this current archive was created by Crawl and 1000. But still, Dief's reviews and other material were really great and always worth browsing through.

Fenrir's Sprite Domain
Good golly, Miss Molly, take a look at all those Final Fantasy 6 sprites (as well as all the others, too!) Not to mention, Fenrir has contributed quite a bit of interesting and funny stuff to my site and message board.

DEATHAMSTER's Nest
This site _literally_ just started, and if you haven't been a member of my board's community for some time, you may not be able to appreciate the hilarity of the DBDH Arena fights. Even so, the Stupid Game Ideas are really funny and James&Junus show a promising new game review style.

Yoichi's Temple of Fiends Revisited
You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you may be offended, but Yoichi is a really good ranter and game reviewer. A site that's really worth a read!

Loogslair.com
Loogaroo's site has been around as long as I can remember, and it has a pretty decent amount of content, like game reviews and other yummy stuff!

The Odyssey of Hyrule
Video Gamer-X has a ton of sites devoted to many different modern games (like the PSX Final Fantasy's and N64 Zeldas), but this is the one I was mostly into...You don't want to know how much time I spent reading through everything on this site. You don't want to know.

The NES Retreat
Deathspork's site is no longer updated, but it has a lot of great content! Some hilarious articles and decent game reviews. Definitely worth checking out - one of my favorite NES sites of the past.

Jump the Shark
Find out when YOUR favorite TV shows "jumped the shark", and voice your opinion, too! (Someone needs to make one of these sites for video games.)

Seanbaby's NES Page
Seanbaby is the only person who could ever do "Seanbaby-style" humor right! (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you haven't been around the internet, enough.) My favorite sections are the "Congratulations Awards" and the "Games Based on Crap".

Pointless Waste of Time
Along with Portal of Evil, this is another site my boyfriend got me hooked on! It's really hilarious, with joke reviews, caption contests, song lyric parodies and more!

The Working Designs RPG Critic
The RPG Critic reviews RPGs for all different game systems, and his writing is among the best I've seen.

The Nitpickers Site
Mistakes, Easter Eggs, and Nitpicks in movies and TV shows! Every time I rent a movie, I always go here after watching it to see what "mistakes" other viewers have pointed out.

Roger Ebert @ Chicago Sun Times
Some love him, some do not, but even if you disagree with him, I think that many reviewers could learn a thing or two from him. (And not just movie reviewers, game reviewers, too.) Someday, I hope to write as good as this...

That's all I can think of for now...
