REASONS: It is incredible how you can scan a physical object and get an extremely accurate 3D image of it on your computer screen. There are a lot of technicalities involved in the working of the scanners. I am very curious to know the mechanism by which these scanners work. Another reason for choosing 3D scanners is that they make it possible to reverse engineer almost any product. I think if more research is done on 3D scanning it can be a very helpful manufacturing tool.
DELIVERABLES: I will include specifications and images of 3D scanners currently available in market. I will also include informative links. Finally i will give examples of firms which use 3D scanners in manufacturing processes and will also give examples of processes in which 3D scanners can be used.
