IMAC Background

IMAC, or Indian Muslim Affairs Committee was founded in March 2002 by a group of US based Indian Muslims outraged by the systematic and targeted genocide of Muslims in Gujarat at the hands of the Sangh Parivar (The Ruling coalition of Hindu Funtamentalists).

The primary objectives of IMAC are:

I. To organize the largely scattered Indian Muslim community of North America into a viable and effective advocacy force.

II. Unite the various oppressed minorities of India such as the Dalits, Christians and Sikhs as well as secular minded Hindus into an effective and forceful coalition aimed at countering the Hindutva phenomenon.

III. Highlight the oppression of Indian minorities at the hands of the Sangh Parivar and educate various communities about the underlying fascist ideology of Hindutva.

IV. Provide an intellectual platform to counter the rampant ideologues and allegations of the Hindutva camp against the Indian Muslim community.

V. Organize grassroots advocacy and lobbying efforts.

IMAC is currently involved in:

I. Monitoring and archiving news from Indian and International media pertaining to Indian Muslims and the fascist deeds of the Sangh Parivar.

II. Publishing a weekly email news digest catering to the needs of the Indian Muslim community. This digest comprises of important news articles and opinions as well as a historical perspective section.

III. Forging ties and working together with prominent like-minded Indian secular and religious organizations in the US and abroad.
Running regional and national campaigns to educate US Government officials on the extent of discrimination faced by Indian Minorities.

IV. Organizing Events and Seminars to educate people on the suffering minorities and the underlying causes for their discrimination.
