Chapter Eight

"Now it's time to say goodbye, to all our company M-I-C,

"See ya real soon!" Britney and Ryan said.

"K-E-Y,

"Why? Because we like you!" Justin and Christina said.

"M-O-U-S-E!"

Christina danced around and sang along to the ending song, laughing and fancing with Justin and Ryan.
..........................::::::::::::::::::::::::....................

Christina was hugging everybody and saying her goodbyes. They had just finished the last episode of season six. Christina hugged Britney again.
"I'm going to miss you this summer."
Christina,Ryan, Britney and Justin had grown incredibly close over the season. They were all insprable
and a whole summer apart seemed unbearable.

"Chris, our ride is here." Ryan ran up,hugging Britney again.

"Bye, Brit. Bye JC!" Christina said, giving a few last hugs and waves.

"A whole summer." Ryan said, slinging his arm around her shoulders.

"I know it's horrible." Christina said, laying her head on his shoulder as she wrapped both arms around his waist.

When they got to the car, Justin was leaning against it,laughing at something Nikki was saying. Christina watched as he threw his head back with laughter and ran his fingers through his curls, which he was growing out.

Christina smiled at his laughter and the way he clapped his hands together when someone made him laugh. Hearing them arrive Justin looked up and right into Christina's eyes. Christina felt her heart skip a beat and she blushed subconsiously.

What's wrong with me? This is Justin your best friend. she thought.

"Hey Chrissy." Justin said, softly when they got close, Christina's arms were still around Ryan's waist and Justin's face changed at that but Christina couldn't read his look.

They said more goodbyes and squeezed into the backseat. Christina with Justin on one side of her and Ryan on the other. Christina looked at Justin out of the corner of her eye. He had his eyes closed and his head was laying back against the seat. He tapped his hand on his leg to the beat of the music blaring on the radio. As the singer began to sing Justin sang along. Christina felt shivers go through her as his sweet voice filled her ears. As strange as it felt to admit it, Christina had never seen anyone who looked or sounded as beautiful as Justin did at that moment.

Christina closed her eyes for a moment, What's wrong with me? she thought I really must be going crazy. You can't crush on your best friend. she told herself.

"Whatcha thinking, Chrissy?" Justin asked softly, bringing her out of her thoughts. He always asked her that when she seemed to get lost inside herself, In fact he was the only one who had ever brought her out of herself.

"Not much." She lied, knowingly. She knew it and he knew it. But he just smiled and slung his arm around her shoulders and went back to his singing.

Justin's mom pulled into Christina's driveway and Christina,Ryan, and Justin ran inside to get the last of Christina things. They were going to the airport to meet Christina's mom and sister. Christina's family was going to their grandmother's house for part of the summer.
They got to the airport and checked Christina's bags. Christina gave Ryan and Justin's mom a hug and then turned to Justin and Christina's eyes dropped.

What's my problem? she thought.

Justin smiled at her. "Summer's a long time."

Christina looked up. "Yeah, Justin but I'll write you everyday." She smiled."And we can call each other."

As he wrapped her in a hug. Christina felt a strange fluttering inside she couldn't quite pinpoint.""I'll miss you." Justin said softly, into her hair."You're my best friend."

The tingle she had felt being so close to him faded. "You're my best friend, too." Just my friend. she thought.

"Flight 369 to Pittsburg is now boarding."

They pulled away from each other.

"Bye Justin." Christina smiled. She pulled her totebag up on her shoulder. And she began walking down the tunnel to board the plane waving one last time.

Maybe a summer apart will do me some good. It must be the emotions of the day.

But when she looked back again and saw Justin standing there with his hand in his pocket, smiling at her and waving, she knew she felt something.
