| Tiny's Quick Guide To The Sims |
| As any regular viewer to the site will know I'm a huge fan of 'The Sims'... but in fairness if you have a PC how could you not be? It's one of the few games on any format I can start playing and all of a sudden the day's over and it's another day and another set of clean underwear. So due to my continuous play I have discovered a few things that make the game a little easier. Most of these tips aren't 'cheats' as they are using things within the game and not codes or anything... if you know what I mean. Nine times out of ten I don't use the cheat codes because there really isn't any point in playing the game if you're not actually going to play the game properly but sometimes when I just want to fuck around on it I use the money cheat and get my sim plenty of cash to allow him to go downtown or on holiday and fuck pretty much anyone using diamond rings and expensive necklaces as a way of bribing them! The money cheat is as follows; - press ctrl, shift and 'C' together and a cheat thingy will appear in the top left hand corner of your screen. Into that type 'rosebud' then hit return. This will give your sim $1000. To get lots of money you aren't required to type that in loads of times. To repeat the cheat bring up the cheat typing box thing again and type !; and repeat it until the box is full of !; then hit return. this will give you more money than your sim will need... however if you DO need more then just do the !; again! To get your sim the perfect personality do this; - when creating your sim leave the niceness, neatness, outgoingness and all the other personality trait bits empty then wait until you are in the game then treat him or her to one of the chemistry sets. Start making a potion (this will also increase your 'logic' ability). Once you have a yellow one drink it and your sim will have every personality point! Guaranteed! Just a quick note, if your sim does this and then drinks another yellow potion your personality willl return to nothing but it's easily sorted as all you have to do is make another yellow one and drink it. When starting off the game I tend to find the best thing to do is to build a small house but with slightly more luxurious items. For instance, a small living room and kitchen together, a small bathroom and a bedroom. In the living room put a sofa (I usually buy the wooden one that looks like it has the leather cushions as it raises comfort levels incredibley fast), the good tv that isn't the plasma screen, the phone that hangs on the wall, a cheap bookcase, the silver cooker (not the huge big thing because at this point it's too expensive but the smaller silver cooker), a fire alarm, the blender, the silver fridge and the cheapest sink. In the bathroom i usually put the cheap toilet, shower and a sink. In the bedroom I put the single sleigh bed, an end table and alarm clock. Having the good tv raises your fun levels, the decent fridge and cooker allow your sim to make better meals, the good bed will let him or her get a better sleep and all those things will lead to your sim being in a better mood for work and being more likely to get a promotion quickly. Another tip for when you move into the house is to buy a desk, computer and chair and get your sim to search for a job then once he or she has one delete the desk, chair and computer quickly for a full refund. In order to get promoted you need friends as well. The easiest way to get this done is to marry a 'townie'. The magority of the time these people will bring into your household 8+ friends. The most they seem to bring is 40 (yes seriously 40 friends!). Marrying the townies can be achieved in one of two ways; 1) The most obvious - go downtown and get talking to someone then when you start feeling shitty just head home and have them over to yours for dinner a few times and fall in love, propose and there you have it 2) Use the Concoction Station and when your sim makes a red potion drink it. This will make someone fall in love with you. Provided your sim lives alone in the neighbourhood this someone will be a townie. They will be instantly in love with you as soon as you drink it and will appear by your side and kiss you. As soon as this happens you already have the 'propose' option. As soon as you start the game I reccommend getting your sim some cooking ability otherwise he or she WILL start a fire when they cook. You only really need to have one cooking point but the more you have the better your food tastes and the less hungry your sim will be. The best way to raise the cooking and mechanical skills is not by using the bookcase. Buy the table that allows you to make homemade preserves. By making these the cooking skill will go up and you'll also be able to sell them for a bit of quick cash (you need to make about 54 lots of the preserves to get full cooking ability). To increase your mechanical skill buy the table that lets you make the garden gnomes. Again as these are being made the skill level will go up and you will be able to sell the gnomes when you've made them (the price goes up from about $8 to $89 I think and you need to make 173 gnomes to have the full mechanical ability). |
