WHO AM I ? You may call me Luiggie. I'm a Sarcoidosis patient awaiting a bi-lateral lung transplant. I'm on a large variety of prescription drugs to treat Sarcoid. I use oxygen 24 hrs a day and sometimes I have a little trouble getting around. I'm married, have four kids, and life will keep getting harder. The Sarcoidosis seems to be concentrated mainly on my lungs. I have been awaitng the transplant for a couple of years, but now things don't look so good, Because my immune system is so weak, the Doctors are skeptical about doing it. What is Sarcoidosis? I will not try and impress you with big words . As you all know Sarcoid is a very common disease that involves any and every part of your body including organs. 80% of patients are estimated need little or no treatment at all. most of us who do need treatment, get ussually started on prednisone. This is a form of cortisone. Patients may have involvement of the skin, joints, eyes, lymph nodes, liver and spleen. Rarely , the nerves, muscles and the heart are affected. If you have symptoms, the are likely to be shortness of breath, pain in the joints, swollen lymph nodes, skin rash, fatigue or fever. Lung Sarcoidosis seems to be the most common.
