Professor Rose sat at her desk at the back of the classroom as she waited for the students to take their seats.
"Good morning, class. Today we will be finishing the Eight-fold Wheel Layout. In this lesson we will be learning how to use all three wheels in one reading. You won't need your books today. Please get out your runes and your notes on the three wheels."
The professor waited until everyone had their notes and their bags of runes on their desks.
She turned to the board in front of the classroom and waved her wand. A drawing appeared of all three wheels.
"These are the three Airt wheels we have talked about in the previous lessons which we will be using today in doing a reading. Can anyone tell me their names and what each wheel corresponds to?"
"Maddy?", the professor called on the young Hufflepuff.
"Yes, professor", Maddy replied, "The first Airt wheel is called the Airt of Freya and it corresponds to Practical Matters. The second Airt wheel is called the Airt of Hagalaz and corresponds to Psychological Conditions. The third Airt wheel does not have a name because it transcends the two others. It corresponds to Relationships".
"Very good, Maddy", Rose smiled, "Ten points to Hufflepuff!"
Professor Rose waved her wand and the three Airt wheels charts appeared on each student's desk. They were like the three displayed on the board. "Everyone should have the three Airt wheels on their desk. Everyone can put their textbooks away and take notes as I explain how we do a reading using all three wheels. After that we shall practice with the three wheels I have given you."
"To do a reading of all three wheels, we would first place the three wheels in front of you: the first wheel to the left, the second wheel in the middle, and the third wheel on the right. Next, you take your rune bag and shake the runes inside as you think of a question. Due to using three runes, the answers to your question will be complex. Now, starting at the first Airt on the left, randomly draw out eight runes from your bag and place each one on the eight spaces on the chart. Next, turn to the second Airt in the center and randomly draw and place eight more runes in each of the eight spaces. Repeat the procedure with the third Airt. All of your twenty-four runes shoud be in the spaces on the three Airt wheel charts. Next, as we had discussed in past lessons, you would read the runestones and the runesymbols on each wheel to determine the answer to your question."
The professor waited as the students scribbled notes onto their parchments.
"Everyone take out your runebags and practice at your desks", the professor said, "Write in your notes each step and what your reading said for each wheel. Write down your summary of what all three wheels are telling you in response to your question. I will inspect your notes to be sure you have it right. This method can be a bit overwhelming at first."
The professor walked around the room as the students placed their runestones randomly on their three wheels. The students scribbled notes as they worked.
The professor stopped at Annelicca of Gryffindor's desk. She seemed puzzled, "Am I doing this right?"
The professor looked at Annelicca's layout and notes on it. "Yes, that's correct, Annelicca. Ten points to Gryffindor"
Annelicca smiled.
All too soon the bell rang. With a wave of her wand, Professor Rose gave the students their homework parchments.
The students gathered their belongings and proceeded to their next class. Rose smiled. The students had behaved today.
