LESSON 36

Seven-rune Layout

After the students had taken their seats and got out their supplies for class, Professor Rose asked them to open their textbooks to chapter 36.

"Today we will be talking about the next complex runecasting method. This method is called
the Seven-rune layout and uses seven runes. It is challenging for the runecaster."

Rose glanced around the room, "Ellie, can you tell us what this method of runecasting basically gives you?"
Ellie of Slytherin jumped with a start. She had become distracted by a daydream and the professor's voice boomed into it.
"Oh! Um..", she paused as she glanced at her textbook for the answer, "The Seven-rune layout basically tells us more information on how to deal with our problem with more detail including what lead us to the dilemma to start with".

"Very good, Ellie!", Rose smiled proudly of someone from her own house, "Five points to Slytherin. Now can anyone tell me how far in advance this reading can go? Fieval?"

Fieval of Hufflepuff swallowed nervously, then replied, "It usually speaks of events either three months into the past or into the future. You can also get a timeframe shorter than three months by concentrating on a time frame in your question".

"Very good, Fieval!", Rose smiled proudly, "Five points to Hufflepuff. Yes, with this method, you can ask questions that can get answers more broader in scope than in some other runecasts".

Professor Rose paused as she waved her wand over the chalkboard in front of the classroom and this diagram appeared:

"This is what the Seven-rune layout looks like", Rose said as she pointed to the diagram, "To do a reading for this layout, you would prepare like the other methods of runecasting by laying out a white cloth. You would concentrate on a question. It doesn't have to be a question requiring a yes or no answer. It can be a question like, 'how will my career progress if I take this college course?'. You can concentrate on a timeframe, such as three months from now or sooner like a week or days from now. Next you would draw out your seven runes, one at a time, and place them in a row of six then place the seventh rune below the row and centered as shown in the drawing here under the third and fourth runes. Now, can anyone tell me how you would continue with the reading and what each rune means? Izzy would you like to come to the board and continue the reading?"

Izzy of Ravenclaw nodded and went to the drawing of the Seven-rune layout on the board, "In this reading, two runes are interpreted at a time. The first two runes, one and two, signify the problem. Runes three and four are read next and signify the past factors that led up the the situation at present. Next are read runes five and six. These are the most important runes in the runecast because they represent the advise the runes give you. You must take care to interpret their readings as they relate to one another. They can show a need to act or wait or act immediately. They can show a shift of emphasis not related to the problem in question. Rune seven is the result rune. A positive or negative rune here will only indicate a positive or negative result if the other runes in this layout show that outcome".

"Very good and thank you, Izzy", Rose smiled, "Five points to Ravenclaw".

All too soon the bell rang. With a wave of her wand, Professor Rose gave the students their homework parchments.

The students gathered their belongings and proceeded to their next class. Professor Rose smiled at the thought that the students were well-behaved today.

Featured in this lesson were:

HOMEWORK:

1. What method did we talk about today? (5 hp)

We talked about the Seven-rune layout.

2. TRUE OR FALSE: With this method, you can ask questions that can get answers more broader in scope than in some other runecasts. (5 hp)

TRUE

3. What does this method of runecasting basically give you? (3 hp)

The Seven-rune layout basically tells us more information on how to deal with our problem with more detail including what lead us to the dilemma to start with.

4. Describe what each numbered rune in this layout means. (2 hp)

The first two runes, one and two, signify the problem.
Runes three and four signify the past factors that led up the the situation at present.
Runes five and six are the most important runes in the runecast because they represent the advise the runes give you. You must take care to interpret their readings as they relate to one another. They can show a need to act or wait or act immediately. They can show a shift of emphasis not related to the problem in question.
Rune seven is the result rune. A positive or negative rune here will only indicate a positive or negative result if the other runes in this layout show that outcome.

5. Describe how this runecasting method is done. (5 hp)

To do a reading for this layout, you would prepare like the other methods of runecasting by laying out a white cloth. You would concentrate on a question. It doesn't have to be a question requiring a yes or no answer. It can be a question like, 'how will my career progress if I take this college course?'. You can concentrate on a timeframe, such as three months from now or sooner like a week or days from now. Next you would draw out your seven runes, one at a time, and place them in a row of six then place the seventh rune below the row and centered under the third and fourth runes.
The runes are next read two at a time as follows:
The first two runes, one and two are read first. Runes three and four are read next. Next are read runes five and six. Rune seven is read last.

EXTRA CREDIT: For an optional 10 housepoints, what questions would you ask if you used this runecasting method? Be creative and write a story about it if you wish. :) (NOTE: The form will still go through if you put no answer here. )

If you would like to be in a future lesson neomail me with the name you wish me to call you in class and how you would act in my class. Also, if you would like to be in more than one lesson let me know that as well. Thank you.

If you have recently submitted your request to be in a future lesson, but haven't seen yourself yet, you'll be in the next lesson.
