![]() After the students had taken their seats and got out their supplies for class, Professor Rose handed out their marked Test parchments. "You all did very well on your tests. Now we will be starting something different. Would everyone open their textbooks to chapter 35, please, and prepare to take notes?" The professor waved her wand over the chalkboard in front of the classroom and this diagram appeared: Professor Rose turned toward the class, "Today we will be starting the complex runecasting unit. The method we will be talking about today is called the Five-rune layout. This method uses five runes. Can anyone tell me what this runecasting method indicates for the reader?" Rose looked around the room as the students glanced at their textbooks and hands began to go up. She picked an eager Ravenclaw girl, "Izzy?" Isabella (Izzy) Thomas of Ravenclaw smiled, then proudly answered, "It indicates future happenings usually within three months". "Very good, Izzy!", Rose smiled, "Five points to Ravenclaw, Can anyone explain how these runes are read and what each of these five runes mean?" Rose glanced around the room and picked an eager Gryffindor who was almost falling out of her seat, "Angel?" Angel of Gryffindor smiled, then asked, "May I come up to the board, Professor?" Professor Rose nodded. "To do a reading of this method, you would first lay out your white cloth as usual. Next you would concentrate on a question. Next, one at a time, you would lay out five runes face-down on the cloth - three runes placed side by side, one rune is placed above the center rune, and one is placed below the center", Angel explained as she pointed to the diagram on the board, "Your past, present, and future are represented by the three runes that are horizontal; numbers one, two, and five. First you would turn over rune number one, the one in the center. This rune is your present and shows your problem as it is now. It can also show your state of mind. An upside-down (negative) rune in this position that does not seem to be in synch with your question could mean you are agitated or very troubled. The rune in the number two position is turned over and read next. It tells you what in the past caused your current situation. Number three is read next and indicates the assistance you will receive for the problem at hand. If a negative rune is drawn here, it can mean delays occuring to prevent solving the problem or your unwillingness to accept advice either from another person or the runes." The sound of snoring noises came from the back from a few of the Slytherins as they interrupted Angel. Professor Rose looked toward the back of the classroom sternly as she said loudly, "QUIET!" "The fourth rune is read next", Angel continued as she glared at the Slytherins, "Number four indicates a problem's aspects that cannot be changed and must be accepted. A right side up or positive rune means lack of oppositions. An upside down or negative rune shows the obstacles to your success. Read last is rune number five. This is the result rune and shows the final outcome depending on the other four runes in the reading." "Very good, Angel!", Professor Rose smiled, "That is correct". As Angel returned to her seat, the professor added, "This may seem a bit confusing at first, but once we have started practicing it, it will get easier. For the last few minutes of class, I would like everyone to practice using this method. Don't forget to do your homework and bring it with you next time". For the last few minutes of class, Professor Rose observed the students as they practiced this method with their runestones. Each had a white cloth on their desk with their runes in the pattern like the drawing on the board. The professor checked on each student. All too soon the bell rang. With a wave of her wand, Professor Rose gave the students their homework parchments. The students gathered their belongings and proceeded to their next class. The professor had the group of Slytherins report to her desk for detention before they too left the room. Featured in this lesson were animal_queen_2005 (Isabella (Izzy) Thomas)of Ravenclaw and harrysgirl4e (Angel) of Gryffindor who had requested to be featured in the lessons. HOMEWORK: 1. What method did we talk about today? (5 hp) We talked about the Five-rune layout. 2. What does this runecasting method indicate for the reader? (5 hp) It indicates future happenings usually within three months. 3. Explain how this runecasting method is done. (5 hp) To do a reading of this method, you would first lay out your white cloth as usual. Next you would concentrate on a question. Next, one at a time, you would lay out five runes face-down on the cloth - three runes placed side by side, one rune is placed above the center rune, and one is placed below the center. Your past, present, and future are represented by the three runes that are horizontal; numbers one, two, and five. First you would turn over rune number one, the one in the center. This rune is your present and shows your problem as it is now. It can also show your state of mind. An upside-down (negative) rune in this position that does not seem to be in synch with your question could mean you are agitated or very troubled. Number three is read next and indicates the assistance you will receive for the problem at hand. If a negative rune is drawn here, it can mean delays occuring to prevent solving the problem or your unwillingness to accept advice either from another person or the runes. The fourth rune is read next. Number four indicates a problem's aspects that cannot be changed and must be accepted. A right side up or positive rune means lack of oppositions. An upside down or negative rune shows the obstacles to your success. Read last is rune number five.
