![]() Professor Rose handed each student their marked Quiz parchments as they entered the classroom. As the students entered, they noticed their desks were arranged in a large circle as they had been at the previous lesson. In the center of the circle was a large white cloth. After everyone was seated in the circle, the professor went inside the circle. The professor held a bag of runes in her hands. Written on the board at the front of the classroom were the words Nine-Runes Casting. "Everyone please get out your runebags", Professor Rose smiled as the students took their seats in the circle,"You'll also want to take some notes at the beginning of this lesson". After everyone had their notetaking materials and runebags ready, Professor Rose began the lesson, "Today's lesson will be another practical one so you won't need your textbooks. I'm happy to see you're all ready for our lesson". The professor sat down on the white cloth. "Today we will be learning another Simple Runecasting method called Nine-Rune Casting. Before we start with our practice, let me start by explaining more about this method and how it is read. The number nine is important to this method for two reasons. The runecasting method also goes back to the runes Norse origins because the number 9 is considered a magical number in Norse mythology. It also tells us that nine runes are drawn from your rune bag during the reading. Would anyone who has read chapter thirty-three in their textbook like to show us how this reading is done?" The professor glanced around the room, then called on a Gryffindor girl who had shyly raised her hand, "Starlight?" "Yes, Professor Rose", Starlight replied as she went to the center of the circle with her runebag, "I read the chapter. How you read the runes using this Nine-Rune Casting method starts like the others. You begin by getting out your white cloth. After this, you would shake your runebag a bit. Next, you would pick nine runes randomly from your bag. As you hold them, concentrate on your question. Next, scatter the nine runes on your cloth." Starlight scattered nine runes onto the cloth. "You would read the runes which land face up first. These will relate to the current situation and the circumstances which led to it." Starlight picked up her runes and returned to her seat. "Very good, Starlight!", Professor Rose smiled, "Five points to Gryffindor. There is more to the reading of those nine runes after you have read the ones that landed face up. Can anyone tell me what happens next in your reading?" The professor looked around and called on a Hufflepuff boy who sat in the circle toward the back of the room, "Fievel?" Fievel looked toward the professor with a panicked look in his eyes, "Um... I...I...don't know". His cheeks turned red as two Slytherins nearby giggled at him. "That's enough, Mandy and Nancy!", Rose snarled at the Slytherins, "Stay after class for detention, you two". The two cringed and sunk low in their seats. "Did you read the chapter, Fievel?", Rose asked the young Hufflepuff concerned. "No", he replied embarrassed as he glanced at Starlight with a jealous look. "Stay after class and perhaps we can work on that", Rose said kindly. Feivel nodded. The professor returned to the lesson and tossed nine runes onto the cloth. Some landed face up and some landed face down. "There is an important factor about the runes you read that landed face up. The runes that landed in the center are the most immediately relevant, while those lying around the edges are less important, or represent more general influences. The runes that are close together or touching often compliment each other, or may even represent a single thing, while runes which fall on opposite sides of the pattern frequently represent opposing influences. Occasionally, a rune will land completely off the cloth. Some people consider those runes to be particularly significant, while others ignore them completely. Now, can anyone tell me what we do with the runes that did not land face up?" The professor again looked around the room and picked Starlight again, who seemed interested in answering the question, "Starlight?" "After you have read the runes that landed face up, you would turn over the rest of the runes without moving them from their positions. These represent outside or future influences, and will point to possible outcomes", Starlight explained, "Oh, and be sure to remember which runes landed face up". "Very good, Starlight", Rose smiled, "Another five points to Gryffindor". Starlight smiled shyly. "For your homework, I would like everyone to practice this casting method as well as to answer the questions", Rose said as the bell rang, "Class dismissed!" The class gathered their homework parchments at Professor Rose's desk and left the room as Fievel, Mandy, and Nancy stayed behind to report to the professor. Featured in this lesson were Starlight_39339 of Gryffindor and Judy187 (Fievel) of Hufflepuff who had requested to be featured in the lessons. Honorable mentions were Pandab8284 and Rosejun62 If you would like to be in a future lesson neomail me with the name you wish me to call you in class and how you would act in my class. Also, if you would like to be in more than one lesson let me know that as well. Thank you. If you have recently submitted your request to be in a future lesson, but haven't seen yourself yet, you'll be in the next lesson. HOMEWORK: 1. What runecasting method did we learn about today?
