POP IDOL loser DARIUS DANESH is set to sign a 1million deal with Mercury Records.

It means the confident crooner will finally get a chance to fulfil his boast  that he would have a No1 single and a platinum album by the age of 35.

Scot Darius had been promised a deal with Pop Idol judge SIMON COWELL's label BMG, along with WILL YOUNG and GARETH GATES.  But last week there was still no offer on the table and he insisted that manager SIMON FULLER find him a new record company.

Mercury beat the competition with a three-album deal.

Last night a record company insider said: "A number of labels came up with offers but Darius is set to go with Mercury. He plans to make it official at the end of the current Pop Idol tour."

Darius, of Glasgow, first found fame on Popstars with cheesy phrases like, "Can you feel the love in this room?"  When he was dropped by the show's judges he told them: "I'm going to have a No1 single and a double platinum album by the time I am 35."

He emerged as a surprise favourite on Pop Idol after replacing fat bloke RIK WALLER.  Last night a spokesman for his management team said: "Darius was flattered by all the offers and is hoping to make an announcement next week."
