Working
at
Wilson's
Ephraim

I started my very first job on Friday September 16th.  After clases, Amanda and I drive up to Ephraim in Door County.  It takes us an hour and a half to get there; luckily, Wilson's gives us gas money.  We stay in an "apartment" type thing above the restaurant.  There are three bedrooms up there with two sets of bunks in each room, one bathroom, and a "kitchen" (which is really a closet with a fridge and a microwave).  The floors are really uneven and it's pretty dirty and gross!  Amanda and I share a room, while DeeDee from Bulgaria and Aniko from Hungary are in the other rooms.  I've met a lot of really nice people at Wilson's.  A lot of the other employees are college age kids from different countries.  There are also a lot of Mexican's that work in the kitchen area.  One of the buser boys is absolutely adorable!  He's only 15 and he hardly knows any English, but he's so cute!  One of the guys is in love with Amanda.  He leaves her notes in her food baskets when she takes a break and gives her his phone number; it's pretty funny.

Usually I work cones on Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings, and all day on Sunday.  Saturday evenings I get to change things up a little bit and I bus tables.  When working cones, I stand behind an old fashioned counter and I ask customers what kind of ice cream (or shake, malt, float, etc) they want and then I make it for them and also handle the money.  I wasn't very good at scooping cones at first--we have to pile a HUGE amount of ice cream onto the cones, but I've gotten much better at it!  I hate making shakes and malts--they take too long, and I have no idea if they actually taste good when I make them!!  No one has complained yet though!

When we're done working and we've cleaned everything up and closed, Amanda and I get to take ice cream with us.  I love the caramel collision flavor, it's sooo good.  The peppermint stick and Macinac Island fudge are really good too.

I've made over $150 in tips already, in addition to getting my very first paycheck ever!
That was exciting!
