January 2005
After a fantastically long winter break (even though I felt rushed at the end of my almost month long vacation!), I moved back into the dorms on Sunday, January 16th.  I had taken my entire wardrobe home with me over break (you never know what you might need!), so I had to load all of my clothes back into my room and find places for them.  Unfortunetly, I had to get to dance team practice right away, so Dad and I threw everything into my room, then I rushed to practice.  One girl decided to quit over break and one girl transfered to Oshkosh, so we now have 13 girls on the team.  And while the team feels smaller, we now have more uniform options!  In the past, the team was about 12 to 14 girls, so there were all these uniforms that we couldn't wear because we didn't have enough for 15 girls.  It was nice to see all of the girls again and have a real practice.  We even ended practice early- which is always exciting!  After practice, I worked on putting all of my clothes away- I ran out of hangers and stuffed my dresser, and still had clothes left over!  I'm not sure how they all fit in my room before!

Later on, James, Justin, Kara, Megan, Kailey, Kyle, some kid that I don't know, and I went to Jeremy's room on first floor to watch the movie Napolean Dynamite.  We ate popcorn and brownies (which Jeremy had baked earlier that day). It was fun to catch up with everyone and hear what people did over break.

In my last update, I kinda didn't mention that I have a new boyfriend- but I'm mentioning him now!  His name is Kyle and we have been dating for two months now- I can't believe its been that long already.  He is from Spencer, which is about an hour away from Rapids.  He came down and visited me over break and I also went to his house over break, so that was pretty cool!

On Monday the 17th, Kyle and I went to Target (where he works), Burger King, the mall, and Barnes & Noble.  When we got back to the dorms, we played Scene It with some people in the room next door to me.  My roommate Amy moved back into the dorms later on in the day.  Then in the evening, a big group of us (Kyle, Matt, Julie, Amy, Christian, Gena, Kara, Dan, James, Justin, and I) played 90's Trivial Pursuit in the lounge.  Our team was horrible- we had really hard questions from the early 90's while the other teams got questions from the late 90's.  Oh well, it was still fun!

The third floor really bonded after break- everyone travels as a pack now- once we walked to class together with like eight people.  It's kind of slow going then, but nice to be part of a group.  Everyone leaves their door open and people move from room to room.  There is even a "third floor lounge" now.  Instead of going down to first floor where the real lounge is, people just sit at the end of the hallway and play games- cards, scrabble, or MadGab.

Dance team has been keeping me very busy.  At Raider Classic, our team placed 2nd in the collegiate division and was awarded the honor of attending a national competition in Minneapolis.  In order to go, we needed to raise almost $300 a girl.  So we have been very busy fundraising.  On January 20th, we danced on the local morning news to promote the team.  We have also been busy dancing at the men's and women's basketball games.  The men's game against UW-Milwaukee was very exciting- the Resch Center was packed and the crowd was charged, which always makes things fun!  The game was close and went back and forth- it was tie game with 2 minutes left, then we ended up winning by four points at the very end of the game- it was awesome!

On January 21st, I went to a concert in Milwaukee with Kyle, Dan, and Kara.  Something Corporate was the headliner, then there were three opening bands- 'The Academy is...', 'Hidden in Plain View', and 'Straylight Run'.  We were in the third "row"- if you could call it that!  It was standing room only, so we were very tightly packed together- I would almost describe it as crushed together!  I was standing in some positions that aren't humanly possible, but since there were so many people around, they held me up!  It was quite an experience- a very, very sweaty experience! But it was a lot of fun too and I'm glad I went.  When we came out of the concert, we found that Milwaukee was in the midst of a blizzard, so the drive home was not cool.  It took about an hour and 40 minutes to get to Milwaukee, and twice as long for us to get back.
